- Day 1
Departure to Africa
You're ready to head out for Africa today. Make sure everything's packed and your documents are in order before you leave for the airport. This is when your trip officially gets going.

Beira
After you land at Beira airport, your guide meets you and you'll start getting to know Mozambique's second largest city. You'll walk through the old town where you can see Mediterranean-style architecture, check out the Grande Hotel Beira with its distinctive Art Deco design, and head down to the busy port area.

Beira to Gorongosa National Park
You drive north inland toward Gorongosa National Park, which National Geographic called 'Africa's Lost Eden.' Once you reach Chitengo, you'll spend three hours in the afternoon on a safari in an open vehicle, looking for wildlife across this massive 3,770 square kilometer protected area.

Landmarks Gorongosa National Park - Day 4
Gorongosa National Park
You'll do two game drives today in open off-road vehicles to see as much wildlife as possible. One happens early in the morning, then you'll rest during the heat of midday like the animals do, and another drive happens in the afternoon.

Landmarks Gorongosa National Park - Day 5
Gorongosa National Park
This morning you visit a local community and tour both their hospital and school to see how people live here. Later in the afternoon, you'll head back out for another three-hour game drive through the national park to see what animals show up.

Landmarks Gorongosa National Park - Day 6
Gorongosa National Park to Vilankulo
You leave the park and drive south through Mozambique's interior toward the Indian Ocean coast at Vilankulo. When you arrive, you can relax by the pool or walk along the wide sandy beach that overlooks what's known as the 'Serengeti of the seas.'

- Day 7
Bazaruto Archipelago
Today the tour bus stays parked while you board a boat to explore the Bazaruto Archipelago. You'll snorkel in clear turquoise waters to see coral reefs and colorful fish, and you might spot sea turtles or manta rays. You'll also visit the largest sand dunes in the Indian Ocean and keep an eye out for rare dugongs. You're back at your hotel by late afternoon.

Landmarks Bazaruto Archipelago - Day 8
Vilankulo
After several days of activity, today is about taking it easy. You can relax in a quiet corner of the garden, take a long walk on the beach, or get a wellness massage at the spa if that appeals to you.

- Day 9
Vilankulo to Tofo
You travel south toward Tofo, passing more and more palm plantations along the way. You'll stop in Inhambane, one of Mozambique's oldest cities, to see historic buildings and learn about the area's cultural heritage. Then you continue to the quiet fishing village of Tofo and explore the town before settling in.

Landmarks Inhambane Tofo Beach - Day 10
Tofo
You head out for a two-and-a-half-hour ocean safari looking for whale sharks, manta rays, sea turtles, and humpback whales. Later you visit Bamboo, a local Bitonga family member, to harvest manioc leaves and learn how they grow things traditionally. After that, you prepare and eat matapa, Mozambique's national dish, with the family. In the early evening, you stop by the Marine Megafauna Foundation to learn about their conservation efforts.

Tofo to Chidenguele
You visit the ALMA upcycling project in Tofo to see how local artists turn collected waste into colorful bags, purses, and jewelry. From there you head to Chidenguele and take a one-hour boat trip on Lake Nhambavale to see how local villagers depend on and live with this large lake.

Landmarks Lake Nhambavale - Day 12
Chidenguele to Maputo
You leave early this morning for the final leg to Maputo. After arriving, you explore Mafalala, Maputo's oldest township, which was home to important freedom fighters and athletes. You meet locals and hear their stories about the liberation movement and what township life is like today. Later you have a final group dinner with your fellow travelers to talk about everything you've seen.

Landmarks Mafalala - Day 13
Maputo
You visit Maputo's old town to see the historic train station, a beautiful green and white building with an iron roof that's considered one of the most beautiful train stations anywhere. You're back at your accommodation by midday to gather your luggage, say goodbye to your guide at the airport, and start heading home in the afternoon.

Return to Frankfurt
After you land in Frankfurt, you continue your journey home to your local area. Your African adventure is wrapping up as you head back.
