Colombo to Negombo
You'll get picked up at Colombo airport and head to the beach resort in Negombo. From there, you spend the day checking out the local wetlands and lagoons, keeping an eye out for waterbirds. It's a chance to ease into the trip and start getting familiar with Sri Lanka's bird life right away.

Negombo to Wilpattu National Park

Wilpattu to Habarana
You drive to Habarana and settle in. After lunch, you visit Sam Popham Arboretum where you can watch for dry zone bird species like Jungle Magpie Robins, Jungle Fowl, and Red Vented and Black Capped Bulbuls. The arboretum gives you a more controlled setting to spot these specific birds.

Sigiriya - Minneriya
In the morning, you head out for birdwatching at Sigiriya Sanctuary to catch endemic species, migratory birds, eagles, water birds, and falcons. After lunch, you switch gears with an afternoon jeep safari at Minneriya National Park where you'll see birds and other wildlife including Asian elephants roaming the landscape.

After lunch you explore Udawattakale Sanctuary for more birdwatching. Two locations give you different ecosystems to check out.
