Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in San José
You'll arrive in San José and get transferred to your hotel in the capital. After you settle in, spend the rest of the day walking around at your own pace to get a feel for the city.
- Day 2
San José to La Fortuna
Drive through coffee and ornamental plantations heading toward Arenal Volcano. Stop at Ecocentro Danaus nature center where you'll see tropical plants, amphibians, mammals, reptiles, insects, and birds, plus they have a butterfly garden. From there, head to La Fortuna and later in the afternoon go out to the thermal springs.

- Day 3
La Fortuna
Hike across the cooled lava fields in the national park with Arenal Volcano and Lake Arenal in front of you the whole time. After that, visit a coffee finca to see how coffee gets made from start to finish.

Landmarks Arenal National Park Lake Arenal - Day 4
La Fortuna to Tirimbina Reserve
Start with a pineapple plantation visit, then drive to Tirimbina Reserve where you can watch different animal species in their natural environment. Learn about cocoa production at the reserve, following it from bean all the way to chocolate.

Landmarks Tirimbina Reserve - Day 5
Tirimbina to Tortuguero
Head toward the Caribbean coast and have a typical breakfast along the way. Drive through banana plantations to reach the boat landing, then travel by boat through canals and rivers north to Tortuguero and your jungle lodge. In the afternoon, check out the village of Tortuguero and the turtle museum. If you're visiting from July to September, there's an optional tour to see sea turtles laying eggs.

Landmarks Tortuguero National Park Tortuguero Village 
- Day 6
Tortuguero
Take a boat tour through Tortuguero National Park canals before breakfast, watching birds and animals as they start their day. After eating, walk the lodge's hiking trails. Have lunch at the lodge, then take another boat tour in the afternoon. If you're fortunate, you'll see monkeys, sloths, turtles, iguanas, and lots of different bird species.

- Day 7
Tortuguero to San José
Head back to San José by boat and bus to return to your city hotel. You also have the option to arrange a transfer to another hotel on the Caribbean coast for an extra fee, and you can add more beach days if you want.

Departure from San José
