- Day 1
Los Angeles to Las Vegas
You'll head out early from Los Angeles and drive north through San Bernardino National Forest into the Mojave Desert. The route takes you past Seven Magic Mountains, a colorful rock art installation that's worth a quick photo stop. From there, you'll continue to Las Vegas and check in around 3 PM. Once you've settled into your hotel, spend the afternoon and evening walking through the major casino properties on the Strip. Several shows are available if you want to catch a performance after dinner.

Las Vegas to Page
There's an optional early morning trip to Emerald Cove for kayaking if you're interested. After that, you'll drive toward Grand Canyon National Park, passing the Hoover Dam and following Route 66 for part of the journey. You'll arrive at the South Rim around noon and head to Mather Point to check out the views. Helicopter tours are available if you want an aerial perspective. Later you'll drive east to Page, Arizona for your overnight stay, arriving by evening.

Page to Salt Lake City
Start early and head into Antelope Canyon with a Navajo guide who'll show you through the slot canyons and explain the light patterns that filter down through the narrow openings above. Afterward, you'll drive to Horseshoe Bend to see the Colorado River making its dramatic turn through the red rock landscape. On your way south, you'll pass through Bryce Canyon National Park to see the hoodoo formations. You'll reach Salt Lake City in the evening after a long but scenic driving day.

Salt Lake City to Yellowstone National Park
You'll drive north from Salt Lake City toward Idaho Falls, passing through rolling countryside and taking in the landscape change as you head toward Yellowstone. Once you enter Yellowstone National Park, you'll stop to see the major geothermal features including the Grand Prismatic Hot Spring with its vibrant colors, Old Faithful Geyser that erupts on schedule, and Fountain Paint Pot with its colorful mineral formations. Plan to spend the afternoon exploring these thermal areas.

- Day 5
Yellowstone National Park
Today focuses on Yellowstone's upper loop. Leaving from Madison Junction, you'll head north past Gibbon Falls and Sapphire Pool before reaching Norris Geyser Basin where you can see the world's largest geyser and walk among various geothermal features. Continue north to Mammoth Hot Springs to see the travertine terraces, then head to the Roosevelt area where wildlife viewing is often good in Lamar Valley if you're patient and scan carefully. You'll end the day back at the waterfall area as the sun sets.

Yellowstone National Park to Salt Lake City
This morning you'll see Upper Yellowstone Falls, then travel to West Thumb Geyser Basin on Yellowstone Lake's shore to walk among more thermal features. Head to Artist Point to see the colorful canyon walls from several viewpoints. After that, you'll check out Elk Antler Arches Park briefly. Later you'll drive south to Grand Teton National Park to see those dramatic peaks, and then head back to Salt Lake City for the evening.

Salt Lake City to Las Vegas
After breakfast, you'll visit the Utah State Capitol, a government building with distinctive architecture and a beehive sculpture that's notable. Drive across the border to Valley of Fire State Park in Nevada where red rock formations rise up dramatically across the landscape, shaped by millions of years of erosion. Spend a couple hours walking around the park to see different rock formations. You'll head back to Las Vegas in the afternoon, arriving with time to settle in before dinner.

Las Vegas to Los Angeles
After breakfast, you'll start the return drive to Los Angeles. First stop is Ethel M Chocolates Factory where you can watch chocolate production and pick up some souvenirs. Right next door is the Ethel M Botanical Cactus Garden with over 300 plant species, so take some time walking through there if you're interested in desert plants. Continue toward Los Angeles and stop at Barstow Outlets for shopping. You'll arrive back in Los Angeles later that evening after the long drive.
