You'll need an early breakfast because while the climbs aren't as steep as yesterday, the high altitude and multiple passes make it hard. Fast downhill sections help. Pass through the nice village of Charang at midday for lunch, then continue past an isolated chorten and spectacular caves carved into cliffs. Reach a 3,850m ridge with first views of Lo Manthang and snow-capped Mansail peak before descending into the walled city from the northeast corner.

After that, you'll pass through alpine meadows and descend through a red and purple eroded gully to Tanmar village. The trail continues through lush fields that contrast with barren terrain, climbing another ridge before a brief descent to Ghami village at 3,440m. It was the best group trip we have ever booked. Everything was perfectly organized and prepared. The guides and drivers were very punctual, friendly and very knowledgeable. The hotels, apart from the last one in Tibet, which was very cold, were excellent. The same goes for the food. Rana was always available in Kathmandu and met with us several times and gave us valuable advice. This excellently organized and impressive trip can be recommended without reservation.
