Tbilisi to Omalo
You'll drive from Tbilisi over Gombori Pass, where the mountain views really open up as you climb higher. The road takes you to the 11th-century Alaverdi Monastery, which sits dramatically on the landscape. After that, things get more intense with winding mountain roads leading into Tusheti region toward Omalo. Once you arrive at your guesthouse, you'll settle in and have a traditional Georgian meal. Spending some time walking around the village afterward gives you a chance to chat with locals and get a feel for the place.

Omalo
This is an early start day with a hike taking you to Shenako and Dartlo, both set in alpine meadows that offer different views depending on the time. Along the route, you'll see the traditional fortified towers called koshkebi that Tushetians built for defense. After lunch, you head to Girevi Fortress to explore further. Then it's back to Omalo for dinner and the night, so you can rest after all that hiking.

Omalo to Tbilisi
After breakfast, you'll head down to Lower Omalo and work your way through the villages of Kvemo Omalo, Shenako, and Diklo. The highlight is Pichekhi Castle, which sits right at the Russian Federation border and offers perspective on this remote region's geography. From there, you drive back toward Tbilisi, with arrival coming late in the evening, so plan for a long travel day.
