- Day 1
Dubrovnik
You'll be picked up at the airport and taken to your hotel in Dubrovnik. If your flight gets in early, there's time to walk around the Old Town and check out the medieval city walls before things get busy. At 6 pm you'll meet your tour leader and the rest of the group, then head to a local restaurant for a welcome dinner featuring traditional Croatian dishes.

- Day 2
Dubrovnik to Mostar
The route crosses into Bosnia and Herzegovina with a first stop in Trebinje, where you'll walk through the Old Town and browse the market square. You'll visit an Orthodox monastery to try Tvrdos wine, then continue to Mostar. The main draw here is the Stari Most bridge spanning the Neretva River. A local guide will walk you through town and talk about the coffee culture that's important to the place.

- Day 3
Mostar to Sarajevo
Leaving Mostar behind, the group heads toward Sarajevo with a stop in Konjic to explore Tito's nuclear bunker. This military facility opened to tourists fairly recently, and the guided tour covers Yugoslav history in detail. After that you'll continue to Sarajevo, check into the hotel, and take a walk through the city with a local expert who knows the place well.

Sarajevo
This morning starts with a city tour of Sarajevo led by a local guide. Later you'll have free time to explore on your own, perhaps grabbing food at Bascarsija market or visiting museums. The evening is special: you'll join hosts Mustafa and Mersiha for a home-cooked meal where they'll teach you how to make Bosnian pita, then serve sogan dolma and dolam while you enjoy views out over the city.

Sarajevo to Zlatibor
Travel to Serbia with a stop in Visegrad to see the 16th-century bridge that inspired 'The Bridge on the Drina.' Next comes a boat tour down Drina Canyon with local food tasting. After lunch you'll board a steam train in Mokra Gora National Park for a scenic ride through forests and mountains. The night is spent near Zlatibor in wooden chalets that have private pools.

- Day 6
Zlatibor
The Gold Gondola takes you up 9000 m for panoramic views of mountains and lakes. Once up there, you can hike Tornik mountain, which is the highest point in Zlatibor. Later you'll visit Sirogojno village, a cultural monument where local artisans make pottery, do blacksmithing, and weave baskets. There's also the Knitters Museum showing traditionally handmade products.

Zlatibor to Belgrade
A walking tour through Belgrade covers Republic Square, Knez Mihailova Street, Kalemegdan Park, and the Belgrade Fortress where two rivers meet. The afternoon is free, so you can visit the city market or catch a trolleybus to Zemun, a bohemian neighbourhood by the river with lots of cafes. Your group gathers for a farewell dinner that evening.

Today is yours to spend in Belgrade exploring at your own pace. Traditional kafana coffee houses serving Turkish coffee date back to Ottoman times and are worth trying. At 6 pm you'll meet a new tour leader and any new travelers joining this next section of the trip. Dinner at a local restaurant finishes the day.

- Day 9
Belgrade to Timisoara
By private vehicle you'll cross from Serbia into Romania, heading to Timisoara. This park-filled city sparked the Romanian Revolution in 1989, ending Communist rule. The guided walking tour takes you through Victory, Liberty and Union Squares, and the guide explains the city's role in that pivotal moment in history.

Timisoara to Sibiu
After breakfast, the drive to Sibiu includes a stop at Sarmizegetusa Regia, the ancient capital of the Kingdom of Dacia and often called Romania's answer to Stonehenge. A local guide walks through this UNESCO World Heritage site and covers its religious, military and political importance before the Roman invasion in 102 AD. Then you'll continue to Sibiu for a guided walk of cobbled streets, medieval walls, towers, and the Bridge of Lies. The evening is free.

ASTRA Village Museum sits on 96 acres outside Sibiu around a lake. The open-air museum has reconstructed old dwellings, windmills and workshops that show how Romanians lived traditionally. The afternoon is yours to visit the Orthodox Cathedral, check out the Gothic Lutheran church, wander the old town, or grab local treats like covrigi while looking at the colorful buildings.

Sibiu to Coltesti
Departing Sibiu for Alba Iulia means visiting one of Romania's oldest cities and its 18th-century fortress shaped like a seven-point star with ornate gates and museums. An expert guide walks the cobbled streets explaining two millennia of history. You'll then drive to the Trascau Mountains to reach Coltesti and stay at Szekler Mansion. Dinner includes borsch, goulash, local cheese, and sarmale (meat-filled cabbage rolls).

Coltesti to Sighisoara
On the way to Sighisoara, stop at Turda Salt Mine, a massive underground space that reopened in the early 1990s and feels otherworldly. Bring a sweatshirt since it's cool 119 m down. You'll visit Medias to see the distinctive Trumpeter Tower, then arrive in Sighisoara, a UNESCO World Heritage site and birthplace of Vlad the Impaler. A guided walk covers the colorful streets, and the evening is free.

Sighisoara

Brasov

Brasov to Bucharest
The morning is free in Brasov to check things out on your own, maybe find tiny String Street (just 44 inches wide at its narrowest) or try Romanian treats like papanasi (sweet doughnuts with blueberry jam). Grab lunch in the Prahova Valley and tour a local winery known for sparkling rose in Azuga. Then continue to Bucharest, arriving late in the afternoon.
