  • A Taste of Vietnam - Halong Bay to the Mekong Delta reviewer 1
    · January 20th, 2025
Its certainly was not much of a food experience. I have been on 8 explore holidays over the last 20 years and the decline in customer service is very apparent. Yes they offer lots of holiday choices but don't anymore curate any of the experience subbing it out to local tour people and cutting them to the bone. Which you will notice when you are there with poor quality food options or no options that strips out much of the experience of the destination. When you complain they just don't care. With my last 2 trips the guides who are ment to be with you, neither eat with you or eat what you do. Or they take you to places where they are very likely getting kick backs I suggest anyone looking for a real adventure should look to book either with a smaller company or book direct excursion when you arrive. You will get more for your money and better quality. Sad really

Hanoi Street food tour with 8 people was the right number. Any more and it would be difficult to find tables to sit at. Good choices of food and found the cheapest beer of the tour. Breakfast Pho excellent from popular place so timing getting there to avoid queues was perfect. Coffee train needs to be standard part of tour it was a great optional extra along with the walk around the street market. Hue Cyclo tour really worthwhile doing. Halon Bay Cruise was a highlight. Caves were also good. Ninh Binh A highlight. Great boat around reservoir and lucky enough to see monkeys. Meal in evening at the locals house was exceptional (far better than hotel) and probably best meal of the trip. Water puppets with local children watching was good and made better by the walk around the village seeing rice being dried and saying hello to locals. Bike ride by reservoir around village excellent (they had bike helmets). Overnight train was well organised and the children practicing their language at the station was a good experience Paradise cave needs to be a must see for the tour. Far better than halong Bay and a 1km walk in massive caverns. Meal out at leisure near beach at Dong hui was excellent (a good recommendation). Vinh Moc tunnels were authentic and original and well worth the visit. DMZ a great stopping point to appreciate the history. Cyclo tour around Hue was excellent. Meeting farmers was a bit of fun (although we didn't exactly help them in any way) but the cooking was great as was the foot massage! Unexpected. Impromptu stop to look around the fishing village was excellent to get a taste of real life. Hoi an Good orientation walk and restaurant and tailor recommendations. The recommended massage spa was fantastic and a highlight to share with others on future trips. Maybe more time in Hoi an would give an opportunity to chill just a bit more. Mekong was another highlight. Lovely homestead and trips out were great, local market, Tillacra and making jelly and the cooking experience all via bike/boat travel. Maybe an extended stay here although it could have been different if it had rained.. Saigon Street food trip was incredible for views, food and atmosphere. Batista school was really good I just wanted the opportunity to do some latte art but that wasn't practical. Opera house and recommendation to see the AO show was a good one and very enjoyable. War remnants museum was interesting and sobering. Summary overall A fantastic tour that was made by the knowledgeable, punctual and helpful Phan Thanh Bac. Flexible to cope with itinerary changes and to give the best experience. Time with locals and seeing local life was a big plus. I would say 8 people is just the right number for the tour (there was 7 of us) more than 10 and the experience would be severely impacted just doing the streetfood trips. Absolutely enjoyed this trip and Bac always had a plan and made it memorable. A credit to explore. Thank you.
