The two bus drivers did a safe job (which is very important!). The first tour guide from Sofia to Skopje was above average, whereas the tour guide from Skopje to Athens was not overly helpful for the travelers. Most of the within-city tour guides did a satisfying job, although city-tour time was often scarce, so too much information to digest. The hotel rooms from Sofia to Skopje were mostly above average whereas some of the 3-stars hotels in Greece (not the last one in Athens) had some issues. In sum, although some days were quite tiring (especially waiting at the borders), I learned a lot about the Balkans (historically and culinarily) and got to know quite some nice international co-travelers in the bus (mainly from North America and Australia). Between 4 and 5 stars, if you want to see a lot of capitals and important sites in the Balkans in only 12 days.

Overall I am giving this tour 5 stars although I question the star ratings on these hotels. Some were very good and others not. Our Serbian guide Bojan was a 5 star guide, very helpful, attentive and personable. He was with us from Sofia to Skopje. Mario from Athens took over being our guide for the Greece locations. He wasn't as knowledgeable or personable as he should have been, so I rate him 1 star. We had local guides in the cities we were visiting and I rate them all 5 star. With just 20 people in our group on a 40 passenger bus, it was comfortable. That was particularly nice as the border crossings take 1-2 hours and we crossed multiple borders. There were phone charging ports but no WiFi on board. We had 2 different drivers and both deserve 5 stars for their abilities and handling of bags and keeping the bus clean. I had been to these countries before on my own as a backpacker 15 years ago, but I enjoyed this tour because some of the locations we visited I did not see then. Traveling on this tour, there is a lot to see in 8 countries, yet it felt easy-going. As a solo traveler I thought the single supplement was too high so I opted for a shared room. Always a risky move! My time actually spent in the room was minimal as my roommate was not compatible to my travel style. The start time of March 29 was still considered low season so it was a value priced trip, but it also was quite chilly and a little damp at times. The snow-topped mountains and spring colors made for scenic drives. The Kravice Falls excursion was not an option at this time of year. The only optional excursion I did was to St Naum's Monastery on Lake Ohrid and it was 25 euros not 20. (plus another 5 euros for the boat to the springs which I did not take). The discover Delphi guide and museum was included, however there was an entrance fee of 20 euros which was not included. So just be aware the pricing on these additional excursions may not be correct at the time of your travel.

Great company , very good guide Bowan , some nice Hotels ( a 3star outdid sme 4 stars ,great local guides ,great diversity in the countryside ( Kotor and Macedonia scored well ) Having a big Bus was a plus On the negative side Some hotels were very poor eg Apollo and Hermes . Does the company do any checks ?Having 2 guides and 2 drivers was disruptive and expensive. The second guide Mario was very poor.Your brochure said a tour of Delphi was included It was Not .Our guide quoted 12 euros but it was 20 .Your brochure had wrong prices for the Dubrovnik walls and Nuam Monastery. SLOPPY especially as other areas were professional..Overall a pleasant holiday

This was our first experience participating in the Balkan Tour, which included visits to numerous fascinating sites, including several UNESCO World Heritage locations rich in history and stories. The hotels and breakfasts were generally satisfactory, though a couple of hotels were somewhat small and had minor issues with the bathrooms and air conditioning. Our tour guide, Vojin Munchan, provided outstanding service, demonstrating extensive knowledge of the locations, cultural nuances, and various other aspects. Vojin's expertise and guidance significantly enhanced our overall experience.

    Asked on April 28th, 2025

I would be a 65 year old solo traveler. That age is a little older than your recommended, is that a problem? What is the additional cost of a solo traveler who would like private accommodations?

You're very welcome to join the tour—being 65 is absolutely not a problem and no need to add a single supplement to you booking.

      TravelerWritten April 2025

I am looking to book my travel for Sept 6th -17th. The current published price with discount is $1791. Are you saying you will honor that price, even if a request a private room? If so, that would be great and I will likely book the trip.

    • Travel TalkOperatorWritten April 2025

The advertised price of $1791 is per person in a shared room. Private rooms are available at an additional cost; however, for this particular tour, private rooms are unfortunately not available at the moment.

      April

      TravelerWritten April 2025

So the single supplement is only applicable on certain dates? In case I'm traveling with a friend, will it be a double room for the both of us, or do we need to share with other travelers? And In case I'm traveling solo, how many people do I need to share with? And is there a case where I could book a private room?

    • Travel TalkOperatorWritten April 2025

If you're traveling with a friend, you will be roomed together in a double/twin room, so there's no need to share with other travelers. If you're traveling solo, you'll be matched with another solo traveler of the same gender to share a room. Unfortunately, it is not possible at the moment to add the single supplement to any of our tours or dates.

    Asked on April 21st, 2025

    Age Range
    Tour Details
    • Travel TalkOperatorWritten April 2025

The upper age range is more of a guideline than a strict limit — you are absolutely welcome to join the tour at 60, especially if you're active and up for the adventure!

  • Z

    Zoe

    Asked on April 13th, 2025

Does this trip visit either the St Sava church in Belgrade, or the Rila Monastery in Serbia? Alternatively, will there be free time in Belgrade to allow travellers to visit St Sava independently?

    Tour Details
    • Travel TalkOperatorWritten April 2025

According to the itinerary, there is no mention of a scheduled visit to St. Sava Church in Belgrade or Rila Monastery (which is actually located in Bulgaria, not Serbia). During the Belgrade City Tour, the group explores central landmarks including Knez Mihailova Street and the Belgrade Fortress. While St. Sava Church is not listed as an included stop, it may still be possible to visit independently if time allows. There is usually some free time after the walking tour in Belgrade, so you might be able to visit St. Sava Church on your own if you're comfortable navigating the city or using a taxi. We recommend confirming with your guide upon arrival, as they will provide the most up-to-date information on the day's schedule and can assist with directions.
