Itinerary
- Day 1
Trailhead to Winter Creek Base Camp
Start with a 3-hour shuttle ride to reach the trailhead, then you'll hike 5.5 miles through open fields filled with wildflowers. The route gives you great views of Grizzly Lake as you move through, and you'll pass through Lodgepole Pine forest before arriving at your backcountry base camp along Winter Creek. This is where you'll set up for the next couple days.

Mt. Holmes Optional Summit Attempt
Today's a layover day, and there's an optional full-day hike to Mt. Holmes summit if you're interested. The trail starts off gradual but then climbs steeply above tree line, taking you past Trilobite Point where you can see alpine ecosystems and possibly some wildlife. At the summit, you'll find old fire watch tower remnants and get 360-degree views stretching from Electric Peak all the way to the Tetons.

Trilobite Lake Optional Exploration
Another layover day with an optional shorter hike around Trilobite Point. This route walks through riparian zones and past burn areas, giving you panoramic views of Gardners Hole, Swan Lake Flats, and Bunsen Peak. After that, the path descends into old growth forest and takes you to Trilobite Lake, which is a bit more remote and quiet.

Return Hike to Trailhead and Jackson Hole
You'll break down camp after breakfast and pack everything up with the llamas. Then it's time to hike the same 5.5-mile route you came in on, just in reverse, and keep an eye out for wildlife along the way. After lunch together, you'll head to the shuttle for the 3-hour ride back to Jackson Hole.
