Itinerary
- Day 1
Trier
You'll arrive in Trier and spend the day getting oriented to Germany's oldest city. Start by walking through the old town to see the Porta Nigra, one of the best-preserved Roman gates in the world. After that, check out the Roman excavations scattered throughout the city center and head to St. Peter's Cathedral to see its impressive architecture. This first day is really about soaking in the history before you start the hiking portion of your week.

- Day 2
Trier to Bullay
Today you'll hike across the Moselle and climb up through the Trier city forest on a high-level trail that offers nice river views throughout. The route takes you through the Eifel forests, and you'll pass by Ehranger Kanzel before descending down to Schweich. From there, you'll take the train to Bullay, a charming wine town where you can settle in for the evening and explore a bit if you have energy left.

Landmarks Ehranger Kanzel - Day 3
Traben-Trabach to Bullay
You'll take the Moselle wine train over Germany's longest hillside viaduct to reach Traben-Trabach. Once there, the hike gets serious as you climb steeply to Grevenstein Castle, where you can navigate through spiral staircases in the ruins. Later, you'll hike the Kirster ridge to Enkirch, a village known for its half-timbered houses. By evening you're back in Bullay for a wine tasting that highlights local Moselle wines.

Landmarks Grevenstein Castle Enkirch - Day 4
Neef to Cochem
This morning you'll hike to Petersberg and reach the summit cross for impressive views of the Moselle loops below. Then you'll cross the river at Neef and tackle the Calmont, which has Europe's steepest vineyard with grades up to 55 degrees. Along the way you'll pass a Roman hilltop settlement and the Eller Todesangst rock needle. After that, you'll take the train to Cochem to recover for the evening.

- Day 5
Cochem to Treis-Karden
You can reach Pinnerkreuz either by hiking up or taking the chairlift if you want an easier start. From there, forest paths wind high above the river, and you'll stop at the Wingerts Budche rest hut to catch your breath. The route continues through the Dortebachtal nature reserve and Pommerer Wald before arriving at Martberg, where there's a well-restored Roman temple complex to explore. You'll finish by descending through dense forest to Treis-Karden.

Müttersdorf to Hatzenport
Today features the boxwood trail with evergreen forests and steep rocky sections that'll test your legs. You'll start from Müttersdorf and follow historic pilgrims' paths toward Eltz Castle, which you can visit and explore. Grab lunch at the castle's beer garden if you like. After that, the hike continues uphill to the Maifeld plateau, where you'll tackle steep sections with small climbing passages before reaching Hatzenport. If you still have energy, you can climb Rabenlay with its slate cliffs.

Hatzenport to Koblenz
This final walk takes you through lush vineyards down to Koblenz, and you'll finish at the Deutsches Eck where the Moselle and Rhine rivers meet. It's a nice way to end your week-long hiking adventure, with relatively gentler terrain compared to earlier days and great views as you approach the river confluence.

Koblenz
