Cairns to Cape Tribulation
Your journey starts by driving into the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics rainforest near Cairns. You'll take a cable ferry across the Daintree River to reach Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Then comes the highlight: a 4WD adventure along the rugged Bloomfield Track with river crossings near the Wujal Wujal Aboriginal community. You'll stop at Lion's Den Hotel for a break, pass Black Mountain, and arrive in Cooktown by late afternoon.

Cooktown to Lakefield
This day focuses on nature and Aboriginal heritage as you head to Quinkan Country near Laura to see one of Australia's best-preserved rock art sites. From there, you'll explore Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, one of Queensland's largest wilderness areas. The park is known for its massive waterlily-covered billabongs, abundant bird life, and untouched landscapes that stretch across the region.

Lakefield to Weipa
You'll drive through outback territory to Coen, a small historic gold town with real character. After checking it out, you head on to Weipa, a remote town built for bauxite mining operations. This is the largest settlement on Cape York Peninsula and serves as your base. By evening, you'll catch the spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Carpentaria from the waterfront.

Weipa to Bramwell Station
This morning you have two options to choose from. Take an optional wildlife and eco cruise around the harbour and up the Embley River to Hay Point, where you'll learn about Indigenous culture and see local wildlife, or tour a bauxite mine to understand how the world's main aluminium source is extracted. After your chosen activity, you'll head to Bramwell Station, Australia's northernmost cattle station, for the night.

Bramwell Station to Seisia
An early start has you on the Old Telegraph Track, and the drive pays off when you reach Fruit Bat Falls for lunch. You'll jump into the croc-free waterhole for a refreshing swim. Then you cross the Jardine River and arrive in Seisia, the departure point for ferries heading to Thursday Island and your final Cape York adventures.

Cape York Peninsula
You'll stand at the very top of mainland Australia at Cape York, just a few hundred kilometres from Papua New Guinea across the water. You'll walk through Somerset, a long-abandoned European settlement founded by Frank Jardine in 1864, the first permanent settlement on the peninsula. Only ruins remain: bits of masonry, old cannons, and tombstones. Lunch happens on Anchorage Beach with views across the Albany Passage and palm trees framing the shoreline.

Thursday Island to Cairns
Your final day takes you to Thursday Island, the capital of the Torres Strait Islands, where you'll take a guided tour exploring its Aboriginal culture, history, and natural features. After that, you'll head to Horn Island to board your aircraft. The flight back to Cairns takes you over the Great Barrier Reef, giving you time to reflect on the week's remote wilderness experiences.
