    Cairns to Cape Tribulation

Your journey starts by driving into the World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics rainforest near Cairns. You'll take a cable ferry across the Daintree River to reach Cape Tribulation, where the rainforest meets the reef. Then comes the highlight: a 4WD adventure along the rugged Bloomfield Track with river crossings near the Wujal Wujal Aboriginal community. You'll stop at Lion's Den Hotel for a break, pass Black Mountain, and arrive in Cooktown by late afternoon.

From there, you'll explore Rinyirru (Lakefield) National Park, one of Queensland's largest wilderness areas. The park is known for its massive waterlily-covered billabongs, abundant bird life, and untouched landscapes that stretch across the region.

You'll drive through outback territory to Coen, a small historic gold town with real character. After checking it out, you head on to Weipa, a remote town built for bauxite mining operations. This is the largest settlement on Cape York Peninsula and serves as your base. By evening, you'll catch the spectacular sunsets over the Gulf of Carpentaria from the waterfront.

Take an optional wildlife and eco cruise around the harbour and up the Embley River to Hay Point, where you'll learn about Indigenous culture and see local wildlife, or tour a bauxite mine to understand how the world's main aluminium source is extracted. After your chosen activity, you'll head to Bramwell Station, Australia's northernmost cattle station, for the night.

You'll walk through Somerset, a long-abandoned European settlement founded by Frank Jardine in 1864, the first permanent settlement on the peninsula. Only ruins remain: bits of masonry, old cannons, and tombstones. Lunch happens on Anchorage Beach with views across the Albany Passage and palm trees framing the shoreline.
