Jackson Hole to Alaska Basin
Hotel pickup in Jackson Hole, then you'll ride a shuttle for about 90 minutes to reach the trailhead. From there, the real work begins with a 7.5-mile uphill hike gaining 2200 feet toward Alaska Basin. You'll want to stop often to catch your breath and take in the mountain views, keeping an eye out for moose and other wildlife along the way. As elevation increases, canyon vistas open up around you. Alaska Basin
Eat a quick breakfast and head out early because this is the day many people remember most from the trip. Hurricane Pass is the destination, and getting there means 6 miles of hiking with nearly 2000 feet up and down while working at over 10,000 feet elevation. The views from the pass itself cover the Grand Tetons and look down into multiple basins with moraine, snow fields, alpine lakes, and glaciers visible in the distance. Bring your camera because the light and scenery shift throughout the day. Take a picnic lunch at the pass and spend real time there before heading back to camp. Tonight you'll celebrate your last evening with a substantial feast and a warm campfire.
