Itinerary
- Day 1
Tuxtla Gutierrez to San Cristobal de Las Casas
You'll start in Tuxtla Gutierrez where you board a boat heading into Sumidero Canyon. The boat ride takes you through the canyon with chances to spot wildlife and take in the rock formations and landscape. After that, you'll head to Chiapa de Corzo, a colonial town where you can walk around the main plaza, check out local shops selling crafts, and get a feel for the area's history. By evening you'll settle into San Cristobal for the night.

San Cristobal de Las Casas
Leaving your hotel in San Cristobal, you'll drive out to Chiflon waterfall where you can see the natural pools and cascades. The water's incredibly blue, especially in the midday light. Later you'll head to Montebello Lakes, a series of crater lakes with different colors depending on the minerals in the water and the time of day. You'll have time to walk around and take photos before heading back to San Cristobal for the night.

San Cristobal de Las Casas
You'll leave your hotel early to visit San Juan Chamula, a highland town with a strong indigenous Tzotzil community. The church there is quite different from typical colonial churches you'll see elsewhere. From there, you'll head to Zinacatan where locals will show you around their community. You'll watch backstrap loom weaving, try some homemade drinks, and have fresh tortillas made right in their kitchen. It's a hands-on experience with daily life there. You'll return to San Cristobal by evening.

San Cristobal de Las Casas to Palenque
This is an early start from San Cristobal heading toward Palenque. First stop is Agua Azul waterfalls where the water runs bright blue and crashes down in layers. You can wade in some of the lower pools if you want. Next you'll see Misol Ha, a single waterfall falling into a jungle pool surrounded by dense vegetation. Then comes Palenque, the Mayan ruins. You'll walk through the site seeing the Palace, Temple of the Foliated Cross, and Temple of the Sun, along with other structures. The architecture and carvings show the skill of the ancient builders. You'll stay overnight in Palenque.

Palenque to Villahermosa
You'll check out La Venta Museum, which combines archaeology, history, and nature in one place. The zoo section has jaguars and other animals from the tropical region. Then you'll see the archaeological area where large Olmec stone heads sit, along with altars and carved figures. After exploring, you'll head to the airport for your flight out.
