Bogota
You'll arrive in Bogota and get settled at your hotel in the city center. It's a good time to rest up after traveling and get your bearings in Colombia's capital. The neighborhood around the hotel is worth a quick walk if you have energy.

Bogota - Zipaquira
Head north about 50 km to see the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquira, which sits 200 meters underground inside a working salt mine. The cathedral itself is something you won't forget, carved right out of the rock. After exploring, you'll head back to Bogota with the rest of your day free to wander around the city however you'd like.

Bogota to Medellin
Start with breakfast, then walk through La Candelaria, Bogota's historic neighborhood filled with colonial buildings and old cobblestone streets. You'll visit Plaza Bolivar and see the cathedral there, then go to the Museo del Oro to check out Colombia's most important gold pieces. Later in the evening, catch a flight to Medellin for your overnight stay.

Medellin - El Penon de Guatape
Take a day trip to El Penon de Guatape, a massive rock formation rising up from the landscape. Climbing over 650 steps gets you to the top at 2,135 meters, where the views of lakes and islands spread out below. After that, head to Guatape town, where the houses are painted in bright colors and patterns. Return to Medellin in the evening for your night there.

Medellin - Antioquia Coffee Region
Travel into the Antioquia coffee region high in the Colombian Andes. You'll cross the Puente de Occidente, a historic suspension bridge built back in 1887, then continue to the colonial towns of Santa Fe and Jardin surrounded by coffee plantations. Grab lunch in Jardin and have time to look around before heading back to Medellin.

Medellin to Santa Marta
Spend the day in Medellin visiting the Museum of Antioquia for works by Fernando Botero and Pedro Nel Gómez. The city's transformed over the past couple decades from its difficult history into a vibrant place with lots to see. Later in the afternoon, take a short flight to Santa Marta on the coast.

Santa Marta
This optional tour takes you into Tayrona National Park, where beaches meet rainforests and coconut palms line the shore. The park's home to over 100 mammal species and around 300 bird species, including condors and white eagles. The roughly 4-hour experience splits between two hours of walking and two hours relaxing on one of the beaches.

Santa Marta to Cartagena
Travel by bus for about 4 hours to reach Cartagena. In the afternoon, explore the old city's atmospheric streets and visit the San Felipe Fortress, the Adolfo Mejia Theatre, and Plaza de la Merced. The architecture and history here are layered across every corner.

Cartagena - Departure
