Itinerary
- Day 1
Arusha to Mount Meru
You'll start with a one-hour drive from Arusha to Momella Gate, then lace up your boots for the first hike of Mount Meru. This 10km trek gains about 1000m in elevation and takes 4 to 5 hours, so you're looking at a solid morning and afternoon of walking. You'll reach 2516m and have some time to look around at the local wildlife once you arrive. By evening you'll settle into Mariakamba Hut for the night.

Landmarks Mount Meru Momella Gate - Day 2
Mount Meru
After breakfast at the hut, you'll head out for a shorter but steeper 4km hike that takes 2 to 3 hours. The climb is intense though, gaining another 1050m as you push toward 3566m altitude. It gets noticeably colder up here, and your porter-guide will be right there helping you along and watching how you're handling the thinner air. You'll spend the afternoon resting and letting your body adjust before tomorrow's big push. Overnight at Saddle Hut.

Mount Meru Summit to Arusha
This is summit day, and it's a long one. You'll hike 14km over 6 to 8 hours to reach the Meru summit, then turn around and make the descent of 3050m back down to Momella Gate. After that demanding day, you'll drive back to Arusha and check into the Arusha Tourist Inn Hotel. Clean up, have dinner, and rest up because you've got your flight home coming up.
