- Day 1
Tuxtla Gutiérrez to San Cristóbal de Las Casas
You'll arrive in Tuxtla Gutiérrez before 1:00 pm and hop on a transfer heading straight to Sumidero Canyon. The boat ride takes you through this dramatic gorge with steep rock walls and unique wildlife scattered throughout. After that, you're heading to San Cristóbal de Las Casas, a colonial city sitting at 2,300 meters/7,500 feet up in the mountains. Once you check into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to walk around and get a feel for the place.

San Cristóbal de Las Casas
After grabbing breakfast, you'll visit Tzotzil communities starting with Chamula to see how they blend Mayan traditions with modern life. Then it's on to Zinacantán where you'll see a church and visit a family cooperative. There you'll try a regional drink, watch women working traditional looms, check out handmade goods, and learn to make tortillas in their kitchen. Back in San Cristóbal, you'll get a city tour before having free time to explore on your own.

San Cristóbal de Las Casas to Palenque
You're leaving early for Palenque with stops at two waterfall sites along the way. Agua Azul comes first, a series of waterfalls created by three rivers that carved out shallow canyons with vertical cliffs you can explore. Next is Misol-Ha, a 30-meter waterfall surrounded by tropical jungle. Then you'll spend time at the Palenque archaeological site checking out impressive Mayan structures like The Palace, The Cross-Foliated Temple, and The Temple of the Sun. You'll settle into your hotel in Palenque by evening.

Palenque to Villahermosa
You're heading to Villahermosa to see La Venta Museum, which holds one of the largest collections of Olmec artifacts around. The pieces are organized into four groups: altars, stelae, sculptures, and colossal heads, each one showcasing pre-Columbian craftsmanship. After spending time here, you'll make your way to Villahermosa airport for your flight home.
