Itinerary
- Day 1
Tuxtla Gutiérrez to San Cristóbal de las Casas
You'll arrive at Tuxtla Gutiérrez International Airport where your guide meets you for the drive to Sumidero Canyon. The boat tour takes about 2 hours as you travel down the canyon, and you'll spot crocodiles, monkeys, and various birds against the towering rock walls on either side. After the boat ride, you'll head to San Cristóbal de las Casas for hotel check-in and settle in for the evening.

San Cristóbal de las Casas
Following breakfast, you'll visit the indigenous villages of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan to see how Tzotzil Maya communities live today. You'll walk through the whitewashed cathedral with its colorful decorations, watch traditional loom weaving demonstrations, and try hand-made tortillas and local drinks. After returning to San Cristóbal de las Casas, a guide will show you around the colonial architecture before you have free time for the rest of the afternoon.

San Cristóbal de las Casas
Around 8:00 am you'll start heading toward Montebello Lakes, first stopping in Amatenango de Valle to learn how locals craft pottery by hand. Once you reach Montebello Lakes and Chiflon's waterfall, you'll have time to swim and explore these natural spots. The drive back to San Cristóbal de las Casas takes until around 7:30 pm, leaving you with free time in the evening.

San Cristóbal de las Casas to Palenque
You'll leave San Cristóbal de las Casas early in the morning heading toward Palenque, stopping first at Agua Azul waterfalls where the turquoise water pools are created by three rivers joining together and you can take a refreshing swim. Next you'll see Misol-Ha Waterfall, a 30-meter drop surrounded by tropical rainforest, before continuing on to Palenque. You'll reach your hotel in the afternoon with free time to rest.

Palenque
An early 6:00 am departure gets you to the archaeological site of Bonampak while the light is still good for exploring. From there you'll take a one-hour boat ride along the Usumacinta River to reach the Yaxchilan archaeological site and see its carved monuments and structures. You'll get back to Palenque in the late afternoon, giving you free time in the evening to walk around or relax.

Palenque to Villahermosa
After breakfast at your hotel, you'll spend time exploring the temples at Palenque, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its fine Mayan architecture, detailed sculptures, roof combs, and carvings. A guide will take you through the archaeological site and explain what you're seeing. Afterward, you'll transfer to Villahermosa Airport for your flight home.
