  1. Day 1

    Arrival

    You'll arrive in this riverside town and spend the afternoon walking through the cobbled streets and arcaded squares. The chateau here is quite impressive, so take some time to look around before heading to Hotel Mercure for the night. Dinner is on the agenda this evening.

  2. Day 2

    Cycling to Amboise

    This morning you'll cycle through small villages on your way to Chaumont-sur-Loire. The chateau hosts the International Garden Festival from May through October, which is worth seeing if the timing works out. After that, you'll follow the Loire a Velo cycling tracks and arrive in Amboise, where several French kings once lived. It's a charming town with a lot of history.

  3. Day 3

    Amboise

    You have two options today. One route takes you through the Royal Palace and Clos Luce, a 15th-century manor house where Leonardo da Vinci lived and worked. His workshops contain about 40 large models of his designs including an early plane, helicopter, and tank, plus the gardens are nicely done. The other option is cycling to Vouvray wine region to check out troglodyte caves, sample wines, and see Chateau de Valmer.

    You'll cycle gently through the vineyards of Montlouis-sur-Loire heading toward Chateau de Chenonceau. This one's known for its arches spanning across the river, and many consider it the most beautiful Loire landmark. Once there, you can walk through Diane de Poitiers's garden and then Catherine de Medici's garden. The riverside views are nice from here.

    Cycling to Cheverny

    Your ride today follows the Cher riverbanks toward the medieval town of Montrichard. From there, you'll leave the Cher Valley and cycle into the Touraine vineyards. Along the way, you'll pass Chateau de Fougeres-sur-Bievre, a small fortified castle from the 15th century.

    You can head to Chateau of Cheverny, which has been home to the same family for over 600 years and is filled with fine furnishings. The grounds include gardens, a labyrinth, and a Tintin exhibition. Alternatively, you could cycle to Chateau de Beauregard and its Portrait Gallery, then venture into the Sologne region with its forests, ponds, and private chateaux.

The double helix staircase is particularly notable because two people can walk it simultaneously without meeting. After exploring, you'll ride along the Loire riverbank and arrive in Blois.
