Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Frankfurt to Naples to Ischia

You'll fly into Naples and then transfer to your hotel on Ischia. Once you arrive, Ingrid and Francesco will greet you and get you settled. That evening you'll have dinner with the other travelers at Hotel Lumihe, so it's a good chance to meet everyone right from the start.

    Meals
    Dinner (Dinner at Hotel Lumihe)
    Landmarks

    Ischia
  2. Day 2

    Ischia

Your tour guide meets with the group this morning to walk through what's coming up over the next few days. Before lunch you'll gather with fellow travelers for an aperitif. The afternoon is yours to do as you like. You could wander down to Sant'Angelo, the fishing village right below the hotel, or if you want a fuller experience, there's an optional island tour available that shows you different parts of Ischia and gives you insight into how locals live here.

    Breakfast, Dinner

    Optional Activities

    • Tour of the island with tour guide (approximately 3 hours)
    Landmarks

Today you're heading to Ischia Aragonese Castle, a fortress that sits on volcanic rock and connects to the island via a 200-meter promontory. This place goes back to 474 BC, and from up there you get views of the sea, Capri, and the Gulf of Naples. Afterward you can spend some quiet time in the castle garden with olive trees and oleanders around you.

  4. Day 4

    Ischia

You have options today depending on what sounds good to you. Stay at the hotel by the pool if you want to relax, or your tour guide can give you tips for exploring the island on your own. If you're up for something more active, a hike to Monte Epomeo, Ischia's highest point, is a popular choice and you'll feel the effort was worth it once you reach the top.

There are 20 thermal pools to spend time in, with water temperatures ranging from 20-40°C/68-104°F, plus natural sauna and Kneipp facilities to try out. Overall, a well-organized, informative trip with a dense programme that really gave us an overview of Puglia, its landscape and its history. The tour guide was very competent as well as friendly and flexible, a combination that you don't come across very often and which can be described as a stroke of luck for a trip of this kind. The only thing in the program that could be safely omitted would be the visit to the weekly market (this time Cisternino), because these markets seem to have pretty much fallen out of the world and the visit actually meant a waste of dry time, which was in short supply on this trip. This is where the flexibility and empathy of the tour guide came into play, who offered to visit the vegetable and fish market without further ado, a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The other culinary items on the program were well chosen and also of good quality. But now to the reason for the somewhat poor rating, namely the accommodation. If you describe the location as being in the "middle of nowhere", then that's just whitewashing. There was actually no infrastructure in the hotel, the rooms were acceptable and clean. The breakfast buffet was monotonous, fresh fruit was only available on a first come, first serve basis and even eggs were not available once. The friendliness and commitment of the staff varied greatly. Admittedly, all this was at a moderate price. However, we would have liked to have paid more for a little more comfort. If we were to differentiate the stars, we would have given the tour guide five stars, the program four stars and the accommodation two stars
