Itinerary
- Day 1
Amsterdam
You'll arrive in Amsterdam and have the day to explore at your own pace. The UNESCO canal district from the 17th century is right there with its characteristic townhouses lining the waterways. If you're interested, you can walk through the red-light district, catch some street performers hanging around Rembrandtplein, or just wander and soak in how the city actually feels. There's no set schedule here, so you can move at whatever speed works for you.

- Day 2
Amsterdam to Gouda
This is your first cycling day through the Green Heart of Holland, and you'll see the polder landscape with its peat fields and small farming communities. You'll head through Oudewater first, then continue on to Gouda where the medieval town centre is waiting. From there, check out the Gothic town hall and St. John's church, then grab some fresh stroopwafels and local cheese to take with you or enjoy right there.

- Day 3
Gouda to Papendrecht
You'll keep cycling through the same green landscape to reach Kinderdijk, where 19 historic windmills from 1740 stand along the water. These mills used to pump water out of the polder, and you can go inside one if you want to. After that, take a short ferry to Papendrecht, then cycle into Dordrecht. This town is one of Holland's oldest and sits where rivers meet, so you'll see beautiful bridges and old buildings clustered around the harbour area.

Papendrecht to Bergen op Zoom
You'll cycle past Biesbosch National Park, which is one of Europe's few freshwater tidal areas still around, and cross a high bridge that stretches for a kilometre over the Diep river. From there, continue through southern villages where you'll get a feel for Brabant hospitality and can try local fruit tart. By afternoon, you'll reach Bergen op Zoom, an 800-year-old town with narrow streets, old squares, and the Markiezenhof mansion from 1485 that's now a museum.

Bergen op Zoom to Antwerp
This morning, cycle through wooded areas near the Netherlands-Belgium border and stop at De Zoom - Kalmthoutse Heide nature reserve if you want. Then follow the quays along the River Scheldt as you head into Antwerp. The city has interesting historic areas and newer neighbourhoods like 't Zuid and Het Eilandje. If beer interests you, De Koninck brewery has been running since 1833 and offers tours where you can try their traditional bollekes.

- Day 6
Antwerp to Leuven
You'll cycle along the Scheldt and then follow the Rupel, Belgium's shortest river at just under 10 kilometres. Along the way, you'll see old brick factories and industrial chimneys from Belgium's manufacturing days. Stop for lunch in Mechelen's old town where you can see the 13th century St. Rombold's cathedral and the Grand Place. After lunch, continue cycling along the Dijle to reach Leuven, a university town with medieval houses, the Gothic St. John the Baptist church from 1304, and the Oude Markt.

Leuven to Brussels
Cycle through the hills of Belgian Brabant and the Sonian Forest on your way to Brussels, or take the train if cycling into a capital city doesn't appeal to you. Once there, see the Grand Place and the small Manneken Pis statue. Try the local food and drinks like hot waffles, chocolate, triple-fried frites, and Belgian beer. There's also shopping and cultural attractions scattered throughout if you want to check those out.
