Kathmandu
You'll land at Kathmandu International Airport where a representative meets you. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the day is open for wandering around this historic city at your own pace. It's a good chance to get oriented, grab some food, and shake off travel fatigue before the trek begins.

Landmarks Kathmandu International Airport - Day 2
Kathmandu to Nepalgunj
A scenic one-hour flight takes you from Kathmandu's domestic airport to Nepalgunj, which sits right on Nepal's border with India. The climate here is hot and tropical, quite different from the capital. You'll check in to your hotel for the night and can rest up before heading into the mountains.

Nepalgunj to Juphal to Dunai
An early morning 40-minute flight from Nepalgunj brings you to Juphal in the Himalayan terrain. From there, you trek to Dunai following a route through villages and fields. The trail drops from Juphal to Dangi Bhara, passes through Kala Gaura, and follows the river into Dunai, the district headquarters. You'll stay at a tented camp tonight.

Dunai to Tarakot
You trek eastward from Dunai along the Thulo Bheri River's south bank, then cross to the north side and back again. The route passes through Lawan and Tarakot's fields, moving toward a campsite positioned below Tarakot village fortress near Chyada Khola. You'll spend another night at a tented camp.

Tarakot to Laisicap
Today you walk through pink buckwheat fields with Putha Himal in view. After crossing Yalkot Khola, you'll climb to 2670 meters, then descend past cypress trees and a white chorten to reach a 120-meter high suspension bridge at Laisicap. The trail continues through cedar forests and through three-sided tunnels carved into rock along a steep gorge. You might spot wildlife like the white-breasted dipper. Later you'll visit Chhandul Gompa and camp near Laini.

Laini to Nawarpani
You'll climb switchbacks to a mini pass at 3540 meters marked with prayer flags, then traverse a steep gorge with great views before descending to cross Tilba Khola at 3570 meters. Another ridge climb follows, with descent to Chyugur Khola at 3520 meters. A suspension bridge crossing leads to Nawarpani, a mule caravan stop where you can watch for Crag Martins soaring above. Tonight's camp is at a tented site.

Landmarks Tilba Khola Chyugur Khola Nawarpani - Day 7
Nawarpani to Do Tarap
You trek through a narrowing gorge and cross Tarap Chu at Tal Tole (3680m) through a narrow slot canyon. Climbing the east bank through eroded Trans-Himalayan landscape brings you to Serkam (3870m) marked by a chorten. From there you descend and recross to the west bank into Sishul Khola, reaching a cave campsite at 3840m. Rocky terrain beneath cliffs and a bridge crossing at 3920m follow. Later you trek north up Tarap Chu past mani walls and eroded cliffs to Do Tarap village. Blue sheep might appear along the way, and you'll have time to visit surrounding monasteries including Ribo Bhumpa Gompa, Doro Gompa, and Shipchok Gompa.

Do Tarap to Numa La Base Camp
Heading west from Do Tarap takes you to the century-old Mekyem Gompa with its large Maitreya Buddha statue. You'll pass Crystal Mountain School and ascend to Gakar Village and Dorje Phurba Gompa, which holds ancient weapons. After crossing Tarap Chu on a wooden bridge, you reach Mondo (4170m) where the valley splits into Upper and Lower Dolpo routes. Taking the southern branch past the white-walled Jampa Lhakhang leads to Tok-khyu Village (4180m). From there you head to Numa La Base Camp in a side valley by a stream, where Sherin Gompa's large white building sits visible on the hill.

Numa La Base Camp to Numa La Pass to Pelung Tang
After crossing a stream, you'll climb steeply up yak trails on grassy slopes to a ridge with mani walls and a chorten at 4580 meters. The ridge walk continues to a grassy knoll and small stream at 4700 meters, then descends into a high glacial bowl at 4960 meters. A long climb up moraine terrain brings you to Numa La Pass at 5290 meters. From this high pass, you get views of Shey Shikar (6139m) and Kanjeralwa to the northeast, plus Dhaulagiri I (8167m) to the southeast. You'll descend into a rocky U-shaped valley, follow the river downstream past eroded cliffs, and climb gently to Pelung Tang pastures dominated by the glaciated peak Norbu Kang (6005m).

Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang
Crossing a stream leads to switchbacks up a slope to High Camp meadow at 4740 meters. You'll reach the snowline and climb a ridge with views of Norbu Kang. After ascending moraine into a large bowl marked by a chorten of upturned stones, you'll gently arc around it on scree slopes passing rough cairns atop Baga La. A steep descent follows initially, then gradual descent staying high above the stream's right bank. At 4390 meters the trail turns into a vast valley before a final steep switchback descent to Dajok Tang, characterized by a large moraine and numerous waterfalls with snowy peaks including Kagmara (5960m) crowding the horizon.

Phoksumdo Lake
The trail descends past views of Sonam Kang to herders' huts. You'll traverse high above the river through thorny shrubs, juniper, and blue pine into a vast valley crowned by the snowy Kagmara Lekh range. Climbing and contouring around hillsides brings you to a decorated ridge at 3750 meters with views of a massive waterfall. From there you descend gently through blue pine forest to Ringmo Village (3640m) with its chortens and barley fields. Later you'll walk to the shores of Phoksumdo Lake where you camp overnight.

- Day 12
Phoksumdo Lake to Chepka
After visiting Phoksumdo, you descend toward Chepka through big cedar forests. The route passes Palam village (3280m), a winter settlement used by Ringmo villagers, then Renje village (3010m) before reaching Chepka. You'll stay at a tented camp.

Chepka to Juphal via Dunai
You continue descending through Sankta (2460m), Kageni (2260m), and Suli Gaad (2070m) before arriving at Dunai (2030m), the district headquarters. From Dunai you trek a few more hours to Juphal. Tonight you'll stay at a tented camp.

Juphal to Kathmandu
A flight from Juphal to Nepalgunj, then onward to Kathmandu, where you'll be transferred to your hotel. The afternoon is free for shopping and picking up gifts and souvenirs. In the evening you'll join a farewell gathering to review photos and share experiences from the trek.

Landmarks Juphal Airport Nepalgunj Airport - Day 15
Kathmandu (Optional Extensions)
This is an optional extra day if you want to extend your time in Kathmandu or explore nearby regions. Check with your tour operator about shorter excursions like game drives at national parks, rafting, mountain biking, or trips to Tibet, India, or Bhutan.
