- Kelly· May 20th, 2024I did 2 trips with Madventure Cape Town to Kruger starting in March and also the 5 Stans starting in May. I have traveled with Dragoman in the past so I felt extremely disappointed in Madventure. Here are my main issues: 1. They never provide you with a detailed itinerary so you have no idea how many days in a row you will be sitting on the truck. On the 5 Stans tour the longest stretch was 8 driving days in a row and only 3 free days sprinkled in the whole month in nature to actually enjoy the countries! They are basically just trying to cover the distances without any detours or stops. 2. The tours are not cheap but they take every short cut to save money. No toilet paper provided, watering down the milk, staying in the worst most crowded hostel on the outskirts of town. I was paying more than $100 a day in Central Asia and feel like there was no value for money. 3. They don't provide accurate information about the weather. On the Africa trip it got below freezing some nights and they had said bring a 2-3 season sleeping bag. In Central Asia they said it might occasionally be a bit cold and bring gear if you really feel the cold. When they know that there likely will be many nights below 0. Why can't they just provide a more extensive itinerary and accurate information. (They give you a 20 page document, but 90% of it basically just says "you need to have a positive attitude" and "we don't take responsibility for anything ".) 4. Uzbekistan is a lovely beautiful place, but the 9 days there was not overlanding. They simply paid for our hostel and then 3 days later drove us to the next major stop on the tourist trail (which are all easily reached by train Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand). There was mention in the trip notes about seeing nomads in the desert, but I guess that is flying by them from the highway. I do have to say that I enjoyed the Africa trip much more (probably a 4 out of 5). It was my 3rd African overland trip. I definitely enjoyed Dragoman (now sadly purchased my Madventure so they'll definitely be going downhill too) more. I was extremely disappointed in the Central Asia tour and decided to leave early so that I could actually go hiking, horseback riding, go to hotsprings etc. instead of just spending every waking moment freezing or sitting on the truck.Show moreMadventure commented on this reviewHi Kelly, Thanks for your review. Firstly, I'm pleased to hear you enjoyed your Africa trip so much. Africa is a wonderful place, and especially on the section that you did, there is so much to see and do. It's a shame you're not enjoying your Asia... Show moreTrip date: March 2024

Asked on February 11th, 2024I would like to book your tour. I am wondering if I can obtain the VOA for Lesotho and Eswatini.
- MadventureOperator•Written February 2024
Most nationalities can get a visa on arrival, but you'd need to double check for yourself, as it can differ between nationalities. I would recommend checking your governments website and checking the restrictions for each of the countries.

Asked on December 29th, 2023am I permitted to bring my own small tent with me + small inflatable camp bed?
- MadventureOperator•Written December 2023
we actually don't provide tents on our tours as we also think everyone should have a bit of privacy on a long trip. We recommend a 1-2 man free standing tent for 1 person and most people bring a therm-a-rest type mattress (it just can't be a cot or a stretcher type please, just something that deflates, rolls up and packs away nicely).

Traveler•Written December 2023for the massive trips. are there some rest days or weeks?
- MadventureOperator•Written December 2023
We usually have a few days break and sometimes a full week's break, about half way, where we can, on the really long expeditions. We have lots of free days on the trips, so you can expect 1-2 full free days regularly.

Traveler•Written January 2024may I ask what kind of age ranges + also I see TourRadar describes the trip as "partly guided" vs. others which are "fully guided"
- MadventureOperator•Written January 2024
Most people are in their 40's, 50's and 60's, with a few in their 20's, 30's and 70's. You'll have a tour leader who is in charge of the logistics and daily running of the tour, but you won't have a 'tour guide', explaining where you are and what you'll be doing. Your free time is your own to do what you want, and all activities are optional.
