On one hand, the tour destinations were all interesting and enjoyable, and the hotels/facilities that were booked were all very nice and well maintained, and all of the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Also, the main tour guide assigned to us was very knowledgeable and friendly. On the other hand, we encountered a number of operational coordination "glitches" that detracted from the enjoyment of the tour...starting with an error in the email address sent by Tour Radar to the local tour operator (Destination Services "DS"), which resulted in it taking 7 days to receive the booking confirmation instead of the promised 1-2 days for the confirmation (..even though I called Tour Radar several times about not receiving the confirmation and all they could do each time was "send a message to DS") and, in turn, air fares increased slightly during that 7-day period. Then, on our first day there, the driver that picked us up from the airport gave us a "Welcome" letter that was addressed to me, but the attached detailed itinerary was for a different party, for different hotels/facilities, for the previous week(!) When I contacted the DS agent, she apologized for the mistake and recommended that I download the Travel Key app to my phone, which provided the detailed itinerary. While that was helpful, it would have been more helpful if she or the app would have indicated that the itinerary needs to be manually refreshed on a frequent basis to reflect any changes, such as when one of the hotel pickup times for transfer to the next location changed by 1 hour, which we were not otherwise notified of and found out after the fact. Also, I recommend there be more coordination/communication between the local tour operator and the tour guides that they assign. On our scheduled tour into Tortuguero National Park, our itinerary indicated that the entrance fee is included in the tour, but our guide indicated on the night before the tour that the operator should have provided is with a PDF of the entrance tickets or at least the alphanumeric code for the tickets. We were not provided either and not being able to contact DS at the time, my daughter had to scramble late at night to purchase entrance tickets online (and pay for them again). Sorry about my "rambling" review, but I think with some improvements in operations coordination within Tour Radar and Destination Services, what turned out to be an "Okay" experience for us could have been a "Great" or even "Excellent" experience!Show more
