Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu

    A representative from Sherpa Expedition Teams will be waiting at Kathmandu Airport to pick you up and drive you to your hotel in Thamel, the city's main tourist district. Your guide will go over the trek details and what conditions you'll encounter during the coming days. You'll spend the night here getting settled and rested before heading out.

  2. Day 2

    Kathmandu to Lukla to Phakding

    After heading to the domestic terminal, you'll fly to Lukla in about 35 minutes with excellent views of the Himalayas along the way. Once landed, your trek begins by walking through a Kani ceremonial gatehouse, then descending near Kyangma village and continuing through Cheplung along the Dudh Koshi River. You'll cross several suspension bridges and pass mani walls and chortens with prayer wheels near Ghat Village before arriving at Phakding for the night.

    Phakding to Namche Bazaar

    The day involves crossing multiple suspension bridges over the Dudh Kosi River as you walk through Tok-Tok, Benkar, and Monjo heading toward Sagarmatha National Park. You'll need to purchase your trekking permit at the park entrance. After that, you'll trek along the river bed and cross the Hillary suspension bridge before a sharp climb up to Namche Bazaar, where you'll find restaurants, internet cafes, an ATM, banks and a post office.

    Namche Bazaar

    This is an acclimatization day, so you'll stay active but at a slower pace. You can trek up to Thame or visit Khunde Village if you feel up to it. There's also Namche's weekly market on Friday evening and Saturday morning worth checking out, or visit the Tourist Visitor Center near Sagarmatha National Park headquarters to learn about local wildlife and Everest climbing history.

  5. Day 5

    Namche Bazaar to Tengboche

    You'll trek alongside the glacier-fed Dudh Kosi River as it rushes down from the mountains. The trail gradually climbs with strong mountain views as you make your way to Tengboche Village at 3,860m/12,664ft. This village is known for its wall hangings, a 6-meter Buddha statue, Tibetan musical instruments and colorful Lama robes. Try to catch the evening prayer at the monastery if timing works out.

    Tengboche to Dingboche

    Trekking through Somare at 4,010m/13,156ft and Orsho Village involves mostly easy terrain until the final stretch. The steep hill climb to Dingboche Village at 4,410m/14,469ft reminds you that altitude is increasing. You'll reach a fork in the trail where you'll take the left path toward Pheriche, cross a bridge, then tackle the steep final section to Dingboche where you'll stay the night.

    Dingboche

    Another acclimatization day at higher elevation. You'll climb about 400 meters up to Nangkartshang Gompa on a ridge north of Dingboche, where you can see Mt. Makalu at 8,463m/27,838ft and Mt. Ama Dablam. If you're feeling strong, you can continue to the summit at Nangkartshang which reaches 5,090m/16,699ft, though it's not required.

    Dingboche to Lobuche East

    From Dingboche, you'll head to Dughla Village and cross the steep moraine at the base of the Khumbu Glacier over boulder-scattered terrain. At Chupki Lhara you'll see prayer flags serving as memorials to climbers Scott Fischer and Babu Chiri Sherpa who died on Everest. From there you'll continue toward the Khumbu Glacier moraine with Khumbutse, Lingtren, Pumori and Mahalangur Himal directly ahead. You'll stay overnight at higher elevation.

    Lobuche East to Everest Base Camp to Gorak Shep

    The day involves a gradual climb to higher elevations passing Gorak Shep Lake and a memorial for Indian mountaineers who died on Mt. Everest. As the air gets thinner, you'll navigate rocks, moraine and streams until you reach Everest Base Camp, where you'll see the colorful tents of mountaineers preparing for climbs. After taking in the views of Nuptse, Khumbutse and Pumori, you'll head back down to Gorak Shep for the night.

    Gorak Shep to Kala Patthar to Pheriche

    Before dawn you'll depart in freezing temperatures and strong winds heading to Kala Patthar. From the summit, you'll have 360-degree views with Lingtren, Khumbutse and Changtse peaks visible to the east, and Mt. Everest showing on the skyline. After taking photos of Everest, you'll return to Pheriche for the night.

    Pheriche to Namche Bazaar

    You'll head back to the Imja Khola river and climb through forest terrain to reach Tengboche again. At Tengboche Monastery, you can visit and take a lunch break. From there you'll cross hillsides with juniper and rhododendron trees, then cross a bridge over the Dudh Koshi River before descending a steep slope through the gorge with pine forests to Sansa Village. Keep an eye out for mountain goats, snow leopards and colorful pheasants. After passing a chorten and army camp, you'll arrive at Namche Bazaar.

    Kathmandu to Pokhara

    You'll drive 6 to 7 hours to reach the Pokhara Valley and Phewa Tal lake. Check into your hotel near the lake, then spend time exploring Lakeside with its shops, bars and restaurants.

    Pokhara to Chomrong

    A jeep will take you to Nayapul, then you'll trek along the banks of the Modi Khola river to Birethanti Village at 1,015m/3,331ft. Following the north bank of the Burundi Khola, you'll climb up through the valley to Hille at 1,495m/4,905ft. From there you'll continue to Chomrong where you'll stay overnight.

    Chomrong to Dovan

    Starting with a descent to Chomrong Khola and down to Khuldighar at 2,380m/7,808ft (where there used to be a checkpoint), you'll then head down to the gorge bottom on the river's west side. A walk through bamboo forest leads to steep stairs climbing up to Dovan where you'll sleep at a guesthouse.

  17. Day 17

    Dovan to Annapurna Base Camp

    You'll ascend to Annapurna Base Camp, passing Hinko Cave, Deurali and Machapuchare Base Camp along the way. At 4,130m/13,550ft, you'll arrive at ABC with clear views over the surrounding peaks. Spend time taking photos and stay overnight at a guesthouse.

    Annapurna Base Camp to Bamboo

    Today you'll descend following the same route you took coming up, losing about 1,700m/5,577ft as you head down to the Modi Khola banks. From there you'll continue to Bamboo at 2,345m/7,694ft where you'll stay at a guesthouse for the night.

  19. Day 19

    Bamboo to Jhinu Danda

    A very steep descent takes you to Chomrong and then on to Jhinu Danda where you can soak in therapeutic hot springs. After relaxing, you'll head back on the trail from Jhinu Danda, passing through Khuldighar and then through rhododendron and bamboo forests. Stay overnight at a guesthouse.

    Jhinu Danda to Pokhara

    You'll follow the Modi Khola banks for about 4.5 hours until reaching Birethanti. This section is considered the most pleasant of the trek, more like a gentle walk than the steeper sections you've already done. From Nayapul, drive back to Pokhara and check in at your hotel. Later, take a boat trip to Barahi Temple on a small island in Phewa Tal lake, then return to your hotel.
