Itinerary
- Day 1
Aswan
Your guide picks you up from your Aswan hotel early to start exploring the city's ancient sites. You'll head to the High Dam first, the massive engineering project completed in 1960 that changed the region. From there, you'll check out the Unfinished Obelisk to see how ancient workers cut massive stone blocks. After grabbing lunch at a local restaurant, you'll make your way to Philae Temple, which sits on an island and was dedicated to the goddess Isis. The temple's a remarkable spot with its mix of Egyptian and Greek architectural styles. By evening, you're transferred back to your hotel.

Abu Simbel to Luxor
Early morning pickup in a private air-conditioned vehicle takes you from Aswan to Abu Simbel, about 3 hours south. You'll spend several hours exploring the Temple of Ramses II and the Temple of Queen Nefertari, both carved directly into the rock cliff. These are UNESCO World Heritage sites that really showcase the power and wealth of Egypt's New Kingdom period. After exploring the temples and having lunch, you head to Aswan train station at 3 PM to board the 3-hour train north to Luxor. You'll arrive in Luxor by evening, where someone meets you at the train station and takes you to your 4-star hotel to settle in for the night.

Luxor East and West Banks
After breakfast, your guide picks you up for a full day exploring Luxor's most important sites on both sides of the Nile. On the West Bank, you'll visit the Valley of the Kings and step into 3 royal tombs, including King Tutankhamun's tomb which was discovered back in 1922. Next you'll see the Mortuary Temple of Queen Hatshepsut built into the cliffs at El Deir El Bahary, then the Colossi of Memnon, two enormous statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III that have watched over the landscape for thousands of years. Crossing to the East Bank, you'll walk through Karnak Temple, the largest temple complex ever built in ancient Egypt, and then Luxor Temple with its tall obelisk and historic mosque integrated into the structure. At the end of the day, you're dropped off at Luxor airport, train station, or wherever else you need to go.
