Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Kathmandu to Dunche

Start your journey with an early morning drive to Dunche, following the Trishuli river valley as it winds through the landscape. You'll pass forests and terraced fields on your way to Rasuwa district headquarters where you'll spend the night. The drive itself gives you a nice sense of the terrain you'll be trekking through over the coming days.

    Trishuli River
  2. Day 2

    Dunche to Thulo Syabru

Head to Thulo Bharkhu where the trek officially begins. Climb stone stairs that lead up to a Tamang village, and you'll have a chance to talk with locals about how they live and work in these mountain communities. From there the trail continues through pine and rhododendron forests as you make your way to a ridge, then down to Thulo Syabru for the night.

Trek through forests of rhododendron, oak, and fir, walking past Dursagang and Foprang Danda. Throughout this five-hour hike you'll get views of Langtang, Ganesh, Annapurna, and peaks across the Tibetan border. By evening you reach Chandanbari, where there's a local cheese factory and Sing Gompa monastery to check out if you have energy after the day's walk.

    Gosaikunda

This is your rest day at Gosaikunda. Take a hike at your own pace to the other two nearby lakes in the area and spend time with the mountain and lake scenery. It's a good chance to let your body adjust to the altitude and just take in your surroundings without a set schedule.

  6. Day 6

    Gosaikunda to Dunche

Begin a long descent back through Lauribinayak toward Chandanbari and then all the way down to Dunche, retracing your route. As you lose altitude the pine forests gradually change character, and the easy descent offers scenic views throughout. It's a fairly hasty day of walking but the path is familiar from your trek up.

    Included Activities

  7. Day 7

    Dunche to Kathmandu

An early morning drive takes you back to Kathmandu, covering over eight hours as you pass through small villages, green hills, and patchwork terraced farms. The journey itself is pleasant and gives you time to reflect on the trek. Mountain Rock Treks has arranged a celebratory dinner waiting for you that evening to mark your successful completion of the trek.

For those with limited time this is a good and varied introductory trek with 3 full days walking, starting from and ending in Kathmandu. It is also very quiet - very few other trekkers. Hotels are surprisingly good. I did this trek in mid-April, visibility was quite poor, and now most trekking trails on Day 3 have been made into roads, this is of course neither the guide or the Tour Operator's fault, I highly recommend Mountain Rock and will be coming back to do another trek with them. Dipak offers great and speedy service in the planning process and takes great care of everything.

Mountain Rock Treks provided an awesome trek and the best guide for the short time frame that we had. We got to see all the highlights provided between Lukla and Tengboche including Everest view hotel, Everest museum, and the Sherpa museum. Outstanding for and great people throughout. The perfect hike for a short time frame.
