Itinerary
- Day 1
Kathmandu
After arriving at Kathmandu airport, you'll get picked up and transferred to your 3-star hotel in Thamel. The afternoon is yours to rest up or wander around the local shops and neighborhood. This evening there's a welcome dinner with traditional Nepalese cultural dance, so you'll get to meet the other trekkers on your trip.

- Day 2
Kathmandu
Today you'll tour Kathmandu and see several World Heritage Sites including Durbar Square, Pashupatinath temple, Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple), and Bouddhanath, one of the world's largest stupas. Around midday there's a pre-trip discussion where you'll meet your trek leader and the rest of your team members.

Kathmandu to Chichira
You'll fly to Tumlingtar this morning to join the rest of your trek team. From there, you'll drive to Chichira, a small Gurung settlement where you'll stay for the night.

Chichira to Num
Starting early, you'll follow the trail through several charming villages and lush mountain forests. By the end of the day you'll reach Num, which sits on a ridge and offers nice panoramic views of the surrounding area.

Num to Seduwa
This is a tough day with a steep descent through forests and terraced farms down to the Barun River, followed by a steep climb back up through the forest. You'll get to Seduwa where Makalu Barun National Park begins, and you'll need to register your permits here. Your camp for the night is at the top end of the village.

Seduwa to Tashi Gaon
The trail takes you down to the Kasuwa Khola river and then across the hills through rice fields. You'll arrive at Tashi Gaon, a village with great Himalayan views, where you'll stay overnight.

Tashi Gaon to Khongma Danda
Physically challenging day at higher elevations. After reaching the ridge top, you'll head through forest, cross a river, then climb steeply to the ridge at Kharka. From there the trail descends to Khongma Danda where you'll stay the night.

Khongma Danda
Today is for acclimatization before you head to higher altitudes. Health specialists recommend staying active rather than resting, so you can take short treks around the village to help your body adjust to the elevation before crossing Shipton La Pass.

Khongma Danda to Donate
This is your test at higher altitudes. You'll trek for six to seven hours, passing by Kalo Pokhari lake at 3,930m/12,894ft and Keke La Pass at 4,170m/13,681ft. You'll see great views of Mt. Chamlang, Peak 6, and Peak 7 along the way. After crossing Keke La Pass, you descend to Donate where you'll stay the night.

Donate to Yangri Kharka Village
You'll trek through a rhododendron forest to the Barun River and into the valley. The trail is quite steep for the first couple of hours and needs careful footing. Later you'll ascend to Yangri Kharka Village at the end of the valley where you'll stay the night.

Yangri Kharka Village to Langmale Kharka
Following the trail through the valley in forests with yaks grazing at the high meadows, towering valley walls surround you in the early stage. You'll arrive at Merek then head uphill to enjoy Himalayan views before staying overnight at Langmale Kharka.

Langmale Kharka to Makalu Base Camp
This is a grueling day as you climb to higher altitudes on a physically demanding trek to Makalu Base Camp. You'll head up to Shershong and then on to Makalu Base Camp. From Shershong, you'll see views of glaciers and snow-covered mountains, especially Mt. Makalu. You'll stay at Makalu Base Camp among the mountains.

- Day 13
Makalu Base Camp
Take time to reflect on reaching this high altitude. You'll explore the area around Makalu Base Camp in this harsh, bleak terrain with Barun Glacier above. From here you can see the south face of Makalu and panoramic views of Mt. Everest and Mt. Lhotse. You'll spend another night at Makalu Base Camp.

- Day 14
Makalu Base Camp to Yangri Kharka
You'll start your descent with a six to seven-hour trek, leaving base camp and heading back down to Langmale Kharka at 4,100m/13,451ft. You'll pass through Shershong, Langmale Kharka, Merek and through the valley, finally arriving at Yangri Kharka.

- Day 15
Yangri Kharka to Dobate
You'll descend past rock falls into green forests and the valley as you make your way towards Dobate. The trail follows the banks of the Barun River until you arrive at Dobate where you'll stay the night.

Dobate to Khongma Danda
Heading to Mumbuk this morning, you'll pass through fir and rhododendron forests. Then you'll cross Keke La Pass, Tutu La Pass (also called Shipton's Pass), and Kauma La Pass before arriving at Khongma Danda where you'll stay overnight.

Khongma Danda to Tashi Gaon
Your trek today takes around four to five hours through dense forests to Tashi Gaon, a predominantly Sherpa village where you'll stay overnight.

Tashi Gaon to Seduwa
You'll retrace your footsteps on a four to five-hour trek, heading back down and exiting Makalu Barun National Park. You'll continue down to the Barun River, cross the hillsides, pass through villages and arrive at Seduwa where you'll stay overnight.

Seduwa to Num
Following an undulating trail through dense green forest, you'll reach the Sherpa village of Num where you'll stay overnight.

Num to Tumlingtar
You'll retrace your footsteps for six to seven hours, heading to Chichira with your last views of Mt. Makalu. You'll stay the night at Tumlingtar where you can relax and celebrate completing this tough trek to Makalu Base Camp.

Tumlingtar to Kathmandu
You'll fly back to Kathmandu this morning with scenic views of the mountains that have been your home for the past two weeks. After you arrive, you can relax at your hotel or explore Thamel for final shopping. Tonight, Sherpa Expedition and Trekking will host a farewell dinner to celebrate the completion of this challenging trek to Makalu Base Camp. You'll be returned to your hotel after dinner.

Kathmandu Departure
Your journey in Nepal comes to an end today. A Sherpa Expedition and Trekking representative will drop you at the airport approximately 3 hours before your scheduled flight. As you head home, you'll likely be thinking about planning your next adventure in this mountainous and diverse country.
