- RARobert Lundemo· August 28th, 2025I have visited most countries and taken a few safaris, but this is the first time I have to give a bad review and ask for a refund. Just to take the positive side first, I had a wonderful balloon ride where everyting worked as expected. This was buuked via the same agency, but another company managed this. And I got safely through the 6 days and saw parts of Kenya, but I was expected to see more and have a much better experience. This was mainly a result of bad communication and planning. "Told lies" -After sending a message asking why pickup was not there the first day I received a reply that I believed was from the driver about "unpredictable traffic experience". The others in the car told me later that they were actually waiting for me at the wrong location for an hour. So the driver waited one hour without checking if he was in the correct location and someone at an office just made up an explication to me without checking with the driver. I waited one and a half hour in front of the hotel. This was the start of bad coordination and communication that continued for the rest of the tour. "Unnecessary bad experience": -Not a single lodge/hotel pickups worked as panned, except the one for the balloon ride where someone else were responsible. Typically 1 hour missed. And not a single time did we receive any alert about delays or change of plans. -Little to no guiding. Luckily one guy from the USA in the car had been there before so he could tell us a bit about what we saw. -3 seated in the back seat of the jeep during the first days. I saw no other jeeps doing this. And for game drive the 3 persons could not stand up. -No information about where we were going or why we were stopping. The driver mostly communicated by pointing and waving his hand for us to get in or out of the car. We had to guess what was going on. And I do still not know the name of the driver. Others were asking me I knew his name. -Driving into wet muddy grass the day after heavy rain and spinning the wheels with the roof open so a lot of mud ended inside the car on our clothes. -A lot of waiting several times each day due to bad coordination and communication. The driver also disappeared on several stops. It looked like he went to talk to people he knew there. Typically if we stopped somewhere we had to ask is this was a toilet stop. The group went to the toilet, and bought water and souvenirs. When we all were back at the car it could take another 15 minutes before the driver turned up. "experiences completely missed or cut short": -When arriving in Masia Mara there was first a try to downgrade my lodging after I had paid for an upgrade. Then I was told to eat leftoves at another very basic lodge for diner where no water or drink for the meal was available, even to buy. -The first day game drive in Masai Mara just just about one hour due to late arrival and bad coordination of lodging for several persons. -The second game drive in Masia Mara was curt short with over one hour due to lacking coordination of the pickup after my balloon ride. The drivers were angry and shouted at each other. From all the other bad planning and missed coordination I have strong suspicions on who messed also this up. -As we arrived at Lake Naivasha after sunset all activity there was skipped. There should have been a boat ride and optional trips to rescent Island and Hell’s Gate that I was planning to take. Others joining the group the day after said that they had made all 3 experiences the day before. -No possibility for lunch the day leaving Lake Nakuru. The others had lunch boxes or were eating at a stop where people were leaving and joining the car. The driver asked me why I had no lunch box, but as there was no information as usual I had no Idea that I should have asked for this at the lodge. At the stop the only lunch available was hot meals that consisted of large pieces of meat and potatoes that had to be cut with cutlery in order to eat and it also had a lot of sause. The driver actually asked me to buy and eat this in the car during a bumpy ride. -Arriving in Amboseli after sunset the game drive that day was skipped. We did not see Mont Kilimanjaro during our stay. This could have been the opportunity to see the mountain. -When arriving back in Nairobi I was dropped of at the airport more than 7 hours before my flight departure. I had been promissed to be taken to a special resturant, where I would pay, and later taken to the airport. The driver said he knew nothing about this and said I could just take a taxi if I wanted to go to a resturant.... with all my luggage. "Bait and switch": I was told to pay $540 ekstra for the loging in Amboseli to be in the one of the 2 lodges where the others in the group would be and was told that my original lodge was far away. Reality was that I was the only one in the group in the new lodge and half the group were closer to my original lodge. I expect a full refund of the $540 upgrade in Amboseli I was fooled into paying. Not including the balloon trip, park fee and Amboseli upgrade I paid $1831 for the tour plus $260 for a lodge upgrade in Masai Mara (that without warning was tried to be downgraded). A total of $2091 for 6 days. Due to all issues and missed activities I expect a refund of at least a third of this, $697. With Amboseli a total of $697 + $540 = $1237 is what I expect to be refunded.Show moreAcross Africa Tours & Travel commented on this reviewDear Robert, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback.
