We did the Kathmandu-Lhasa Overland Tibet tour along with Everest Base Camp for 8 days. We drove from Kathmandu to the Tibet border Karung, North Everest base camp, Shigatse and Lhasa. These places were so beautiful that made me never want to leave. I will always keep this tour and experience on my mind. Everything was coordinated perfectly. Our guide Dambar spoke perfect English so communication was very smooth and Effortless. Thank you Adventure Himalayan Travels and treks for providing us with necessary things to make this tour an extraordinary experience.

    Asked on September 25th, 2025

How do I apply for a Chinese visa? Do I book the tour first to have a confirmed application itinerary? Will listing Tibet on the itinerary pose a problem for visa approval? If the visa is rejected, will I get a refund? Do I have to stay in Kathmandu for 4 business days for visa/permit application?

    Visa
    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten September 2025

You can either apply for the Chinese visa yourself from USA or we can also apply for you. If you apply by yourself, then please don't add the Tibet part as they will not give you the visa if you mention Tibet. You can just say you are going to China. If you want us to apply for the visa, then you will have to arrive 4 working days before the start of the tour in Kathmandu, Nepal. It will cost USD 225 for the visa application fee for American citizens. There is a 99% visa approval rate when we apply for the visa. But still a chance that visa will not be approved. You will also need a bank balance of 3 months which has at least USD 1500. Unfortunately, if the visa is rejected, then there will not be any refund as everything will be booked and ready for your arrival.

      TravelerWritten September 2025

When you apply for a Chinese visa, do they ask to see a detailed China itinerary? It seems that this tour starts in China and then very quickly we travel to Tibet.

    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten September 2025

There will be a form for you to fill for the visa application. You can see if there are any specific requirements. You can create an itinerary for China tour just to show the embassy if needed. Unfortunately we don't have any China tours, so we don't have itinerary to provide you. This Tibet tour starts in Kathmandu, Nepal. We have to provide you with the required Tibet permit. Because of this you cannot fly directly to Tibet.

I want to go on this tour on April 4 2026 (single private room supplement). I am a Jamaican citizen and live in Jamaica. I have no problem getting a Chinese visa as I have been to China 3 times with the last visit in June 2025. However, I hear that Tibet is more challenging to vist. Will you assist me in getting the Chinese and Tibetian visa so I can go on this tour? I want to confirm that its OK to go before booking it.

    • Adventure Himalayan TravelsOperatorWritten August 2025

For the visa process you will make a Chinese visa from your country then send me a copy of visa and passport copy. I will process the Tibet permit after getting your visa copy and passport copy.
