We recently had the joy of taking part in G Adventures’ 14-day Inland & Amazon tour in Ecuador, an experience that was nothing short of extraordinary. Our journey began in the colonial charm of Quito and carried us through the adventure-filled town of Baños, into the heart of the Amazon near Tena, and on to the serene thermal springs of Papallacta. We explored the vibrant Otavalo market, took in the dramatic landscapes of Cotopaxi National Park, and wrapped up in the cultural elegance of Cuenca. Throughout the trip, G Adventures’ commitment to responsible tourism was clear—from supporting local artisans and family-run lodges to partnering with community-led initiatives that preserve Ecuador’s rich cultural and natural heritage. A huge part of what made this trip so memorable was our incredible CEO Victor. He wasn’t just a guide—he was a steady, thoughtful presence who ensured each day ran smoothly. He generously offered his time for optional dinners and extra outings, always making us feel safe, supported, and genuinely cared for. His approachable nature and easygoing attitude helped create a relaxed, enjoyable group dynamic that made the journey even more special. Now, about the driving—Ecuador’s mountain roads definitely added an extra layer of adventure to the experience! The scenery was breathtaking, but the ride to Cuenca, in particular, came with a few tense moments. Our driver on that stretch had a rather assertive approach to passing slower vehicles, sometimes taking chances that felt a bit too bold for comfort. We understand this is part of the local driving culture, but when you’re responsible for a group of travelers, a little extra mindfulness and caution can go a long way. Thankfully, everything turned out fine. This tour was the perfect blend of culture, nature, and connection. I came home with a deeper appreciation for Ecuador and memories that will stay with me forever. One small improvement I’d suggest involves the timing of our departure from Papallacta. The hot springs there are absolutely magical—especially since they’re located just steps from the lodge room doors. It felt like a missed opportunity to leave earlier than the official 1:00 PM checkout time. Allowing a later departure would give travelers more time to soak, relax, and truly enjoy one of the most rejuvenating parts of the trip. It’s a simple change that could make a big difference in the overall experience. If you're looking for a journey that’s immersive, meaningful, and beautifully curated—this is it.
