Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Londorossi Gate to Big Tree Camp

Your driver picks you up at the lodge and takes you to Londorossi Gate for park registration. After a roughly 15 km drive through rainforest on a bumpy track, you'll start trekking on a moderately steep trail through the forest toward Big Tree Camp. An armed ranger joins you for the day since the area has wild game around. The walk itself takes you through pristine forest, and you'll camp at Big Tree Camp for the night.

    Start point
    Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (Kilimanjaro International Airport)
    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek from Londorossi Gate drop-off point through rainforest to Big Tree Camp
    • Registration at Londorossi Gate with national park authorities

  2. Day 2

    Rainforest to Shira Camp 2

Starting in rainforest on a small trail, you'll notice the vegetation changing as you climb higher and the forest gradually opens up. Erica and lobelia plants appear as you move into heath and moorland. After crossing Shira Ridge and roughly 4 to 5 hours of trekking, you reach Shira Camp 1 for lunch where you can see Mt Meru and the Rift Valley. From there you climb another approximately 250 m over roughly 3 hours through sparser vegetation with giant senecios. You'll arrive at Shira Camp 2 for the night, and if the weather cooperates, you may catch a view of the Kibo summit at sunset.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek through rainforest and across Shira Ridge to Shira Camp 1
    • Trek from Shira Camp 1 through alpine landscape to Shira Camp 2
    Landmarks
    Shira Ridge
    Shira Camp 1
    Shira Camp 2
    Mount Meru
  3. Day 3

    Shira Plateau to Barranco Camp

Today you climb approximately 700 m but camp at only slightly higher elevation than last night, which helps your body adjust to the altitude. Starting with a long ascent above Shira Plateau toward Lava Tower, the plants become fewer as you enter alpine desert. You'll walk through the wide Barranco Valley with lobelia and giant senecio plants over roughly 6 to 7 hours. Barranco Camp, where you'll spend the night, is one of Kilimanjaro's most beautiful camps and well worth the day's effort.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek from Shira Camp 2 across Shira Plateau toward Lava Tower
    • Trek through Barranco Valley to Barranco Camp
    Landmarks

  4. Day 4

    Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp

Today brings lots of ups and downs, and it starts with the steepest section of the whole route, the Barranco Wall. On certain steep sections without established climbing paths, you might use your hands to help yourself up, and your guides will assist you. Once you reach the top, you'll walk along the mountain ridge with fantastic views of Kibo's southern glacier and summit. You arrive at Karanga Camp around lunchtime, so the hardest part of the day is mostly behind you.

    Meals
    Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

    Included Activities

    • Trek up Barranco Wall with guide assistance
    • Trek along mountain ridge to Karanga Camp
    Landmarks
    Barranco Wall

  5. Day 5

    Alpine Desert to Barafu Camp

After breakfast you walk through alpine desert to Barafu Camp. The afternoon is yours to rest and stretch your legs before the big push tomorrow. You'll eat an early dinner so you can get some sleep before being woken around midnight for the summit attempt.

    Meals
Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner (Early dinner to allow rest before summit push)

    Included Activities

    • Trek through alpine desert to Barafu Camp
    Landmarks

  6. Day 6

    Summit Night to Mweka Camp

Around midnight you have hot tea and a light snack, then begin climbing by torchlight on frozen lava ash. After roughly 5 to 7 hours you reach Stella Point at the crater rim. From there another roughly 1 to 2 hours along the crater ridge brings you to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point. You'll watch the sunrise from the summit before heading back to Barafu Camp around midday for lunch and rest. Later in the afternoon you'll descend about 3 hours to Mweka Camp.

    Meals
Breakfast (Hot tea and light snack before summit push), Lunch (Warm lunch at Barafu Camp after summit), Dinner

The drive back to Silver Palm Lodge lets you shower and relax for the rest of the day, or you can spend the time celebrating your climb.

Everything was fine, great guide William and his team tried their best! Excellent acclimatization schedule, William speaks English very good and told us a lot of interesting information about Kilimanjaro and Tanzania during our hiking. William and his team provide very good service and took care about us whole time! The only one thing we want to improve - the waiter should learn English.
