Itinerary
- Day 1
Chaukhi Pass
You'll tackle a challenging 14 km hike starting through the Juta valley and into the Chaukhi mountainous massif in the Greater Caucasus. The route crosses small rivers and rocky terrain as you make your way up to Chaukhi Pass at 3,338m/10,951ft. If the weather cooperates, you'll see panoramic views of the Khevsureti region and potentially spot the three colorful Abudelaurebi lakes from the pass. After taking in the views, you'll head back down and return to Tbilisi in the afternoon.

Gergeti Glacier
This is the most demanding day of your trip with a 16 km hike that starts by heading to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, built in the 14th century at 2,167m/7,106ft on the slopes of Mt Kazbegi above Stepantsminda. From there, you'll continue along the mountain range through narrow gorges, pass Sabertse Pass, and push on to reach Gergeti Glacier at 3,200m/10,499ft. Along the way you'll see glittering glaciers, alpine meadows, and roaring rivers with panoramic Great Caucasus Mountain views surrounding you. You'll stay overnight in Kazbegi after this challenging but rewarding day.

Truso Valley
Today is a more relaxed 20 km day hike around Truso Valley near Kazbegi, taking roughly 6 hours round trip. You'll walk through a vast plain surrounded by high mountains and check out mineral waters, travertines, a geothermal lake with geysers, and some abandoned buildings scattered throughout the valley. After exploring the area at an easier pace, you'll travel back to Tbilisi in the late afternoon.
