You'll arrive at Kathmandu International Airport where a tour representative will greet you. After checking into your hotel, the rest of the day is yours to wander around this historic city at your own pace. Take time to get oriented, grab some food, and settle in before the trek begins.

Kathmandu to Nepalgunj
This morning you'll fly from Kathmandu domestic airport on a scenic one-hour flight to Nepalgunj, situated on Nepal's southern border with India. It's hot and tropical down here, quite different from Kathmandu. After landing, you'll check into your hotel for the night.

Nepalgunj to Juphal to Dunai
An early morning 40-minute flight takes you from Nepalgunj to Juphal in the Himalayan foothills. From there, you'll trek through villages and agricultural fields, passing through Dangi Bhara and Kala Gaura. The trail descends along the river, and you'll reach Dunai, the district headquarters, by evening.

Dunai to Tarakot
You'll trek eastward from Dunai along the south bank of the Thulo Bheri river. After crossing the river at Lawan, the trail passes below Tarakot's fields. By day's end, you'll reach a campsite positioned near Chyada Khola, just below Tarakot village's fortress.

Landmarks Tarakot - Day 5
Tarakot to Laisicap
Pink buckwheat fields bloom around you today as you trek with views of Putha Himal. You'll cross Yalkot Khola and hug the river along the trail. A 120m long suspension bridge at Laisicap gets crossed, then you'll pass above Kanigaon village and visit Chhandul Gompa before walking through cedar forests as the gorge narrows.

Laisicap to Nawarpani
Switchback climbs lead to a mini pass at 3540m/11,614 feet marked with prayer flags. The trail descends into a steep gorge where you'll cross Tilba Khola cascades and climb another ridge. After dropping to Chyugur Khola, you'll cross suspension bridges and finish at Nawarpani, a traditional mule caravan stop.

Nawarpani to Do Tarap
Today brings some thrilling sections where the trail is chiseled directly into sheer rock faces as the gorge narrows significantly. You'll cross Tarap Chu at Tal Tole and navigate through a narrow slot canyon. The landscape opens into classic Trans-Himalayan terrain, and you'll pass a Serkam chorten before reaching Do Tarap village where monasteries dot the area.

Do Tarap to Numa La Base Camp
From Do Tarap, you'll head west to visit Mekyem Gompa, a century-old monastery with a large Maitreya Buddha statue. The path continues uphill past Crystal Mountain School to Gakar village and Dorje Phurba Gompa, which houses ancient weapons. After crossing a wooden bridge, you'll arrive at Mondo where trekking routes split, then take the southern branch to Tok-khyu village and reach Numa La Base Camp.

Numa La Base Camp to Pelung Tang
A steep climb on yak trails starts from Numa La Base Camp up grassy slopes to a ridge with mani walls at 4580m/15,026 feet. You'll continue through a high glacial bowl and up a moraine to reach 5290m/17,355 feet at Numa La pass with views of Shey Shikar, Kanjeralwa, and Dhaulagiri I. The descent leads to a U-shaped valley where you might spot yak caravans, blue sheep, or snow leopards before reaching Pelung Tang pastures.

Pelung Tang to Dajok Tang
Starting from high camp at 4740m/15,551 feet, the trail enters the snowline and climbs a ridge with views of Norbu Kang. You'll ascend into a large bowl marked by a chorten and curve gently past cairns at Baga La. A steep descent followed by a gentler one above the stream leads to Dajok Tang, surrounded by snowy peaks including Kagmara and dotted with waterfalls.

Dajok Tang to Phoksumdo Lake
You'll trek down through herders' huts with views of Sonam Kang, then traverse high above the river through thorny shrubs, juniper, and blue pine groves. Climbing and contouring around the hillside to a decorated ridge at 3750m/12,303 feet, you'll spot a huge waterfall across the valley. A descent through blue pine forest brings you to Ringmo village and the beautiful shores of Phoksumdo Lake.

- Day 12
Phoksumdo Lake to Chepka
Leaving Phoksumdo Lake, you'll descend toward Chepka through large cedar forests. The route passes Palam village at 3280m/10,761 feet, a winter settlement used by Ringmo people, then continues through Renje at 3010m/9,875 feet. You'll reach Chepka village by evening.

Chepka to Dunai to Juphal
The trail continues downward through Sankta at 2460m/8,071 feet, then Kageni at 2260m/7,414 feet, and Suli Gaad at 2070m/6,790 feet. You'll arrive at Dunai at 2030m/6,660 feet, the Dolpa headquarters, and trek several more hours to Juphal, finishing the lower Dolpo section.

Juphal to Nepalgunj to Kathmandu
You'll fly from Juphal to Nepalgunj, then continue onward to Kathmandu. After transferring to your hotel, the day is yours to relax and shop for gifts. Evening brings a Farewell Dinner where you and your group will review photos and share stories from the trek together.

Kathmandu (Optional Extension)
