Itinerary
- Day 1
Polonnaruwa
You'll be picked up early and head to Sigiriya, an ancient rock fortress that rises dramatically from the plains. The climb to the top takes about an hour depending on your pace, and you'll get panoramic views across the surrounding landscape once you reach it. After descending, you'll continue to Polonnaruwa, which served as Sri Lanka's medieval capital for centuries. There you can walk through ancient dagobas, temples, and historic ruins scattered across the site before settling in for the night.

- Day 2
Dambulla - Matale - Kandy
Start early with a wildlife safari in Minneriya National Park where you'll have good chances of spotting elephants, especially if water levels are low and animals gather around the tank. After the safari, head to Dambulla Cave Temple, a massive complex carved into the rock face with multiple levels and Buddha statues. Later you'll go to Matale to check out a spice and herbal garden and Hindu Temple, then drive to Kandy for the evening. There you can visit the Temple of the Tooth and catch a performance of traditional Kandyan Dancers, which gives you a feel for local culture.

Ramboda - Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, you'll explore Kandy City starting with the gem museum to learn about Sri Lanka's gemstone trade. From there, check out a batik and silk factory to see artisans at work, then spend time in the Botanical Garden, which has beautiful grounds and tree-lined pathways. You'll then travel via the scenic Ramboda Pass toward the central highlands, stopping to see Ramboda Waterfall along the way. Later you'll visit a tea factory in Labookellie where you can learn how tea is processed and produced, then finish the day in Nuwara Eliya, a hill country town with colonial charm.

Ella
After breakfast, you'll head to Nanu Oya rail station to catch a scenic train ride to Ella, a small hill country town surrounded by vegetable plots, tea plantations, and forests. The journey itself is one of the highlights, offering nice views from the train windows as you wind through the highlands. You'll settle in for the night in Ella, which sits at a good elevation and has a relaxed atmosphere.

Landmarks Ella - Day 5
Tissamaharama - Yala National Park
After breakfast, you'll visit Ella Waterfall, one of the widest falls in the country and about 25 meters high. The walk to the waterfall is relatively short and takes you through green hillside terrain. From there you'll travel south to Tissamaharama for an afternoon jeep safari in Yala National Park. During the safari you can spot elephants, leopards, various bird species, deer, crocodiles, and other wildlife across the park's grasslands and scrub forest before being dropped at your destination by evening.
