- David· January 26th, 2024Cucemba Lodge was relaxing in a jungle environment. Lodge is very rustic with limited power availability but a place to spend down time for yourself. Good menu limited too. Great daily eco-tours and jungle/river trips day and night seeing flora and wild animals - especially the pink and gray dolphins! Our guide, Nestor, is a very knowledgeable about plants, animals, indigenous communities and culture/history.Show more

Don't try to memorize everything, it is impossible. Enjoy the landscape, the nature, the very friendly people. Machu Picchu was a mythical experience, with some clouds wavering in the ruins. You could nearly feel the spirits of the ancients through time.Show more

Group tours depart daily and you will simply be joining those group tours. You are met at each point (airport, hotels and train stations) and taken to where you need to be. All airport transfers are private and we like to upgrade all of our passengers to a private tour of Machu Picchu with our personal guide to enhance that experience complimentary.

Asked on December 18th, 2023What is the size of the group? Is there one tour guide for the entire trip or one tour guide for each location? How physically strenuous is the trip? Can you make domestic/interior light reservations? What provision is there for high altitude sickness?

Groups are about 15-20 people. Group tours run daily so you will simply join the group for that day. There is not 1 tour group for the entire trip. The trip is medium strenuous with the exception of Taquile Island on Lake Titicaca. That is a very steep hike to the town. You can stay on the boat if you want or avoid this tour and simply just go to Uros Islands. The beginning of Machu Picchu tour is steep but then it levels off after 15 min. Machu Picchu is 9000 ft, Cusco is 11,000 ft, Puno is 13,000 ft elevation. If you follow these guidelines you will acclimate to Cusco & Puno's altitude the elevation in 24 hrs. Once you get sick it is too late and you will have to stay in bed for a day. - it takes about 24 hrs to acclimate to 3300 meters (11,000 ft) - stay hydrated - drink the complimentary coca tea provided by your hotel - breathe thoughtfully & slowly inflating lowest part of abdomen first - first 24 hrs eat lightly, avoid overeating, breathe, stay hydrated, rest, don't exert yourself and drink the coca tea - avoid bronchitis & flu too by covering head, ears & throat when out after dark in the cold, damp mountain air - after 6PM nylon shirt, wool sweater, fleece & jacket with covered ears & throat - Pack to dress in layers to be worn together & separately.
