Itinerary
- Day 1
Melbourne to Port Campbell
You'll depart Melbourne at 8:30am, traveling through volcanic plains toward Geelong and then onto the Surf Coast. Starting at Torquay, you'll check out Bells Beach before following the Great Ocean Road as it hugs the cliffs through Lorne and Wye River. Keep an eye out for Eastern Grey Kangaroos and native birds along the way. After stopping at the Memorial Arch, head to Kennett River for a chance to see koalas, then do a guided rainforest walk in Great Otway National Park. By afternoon you'll reach the 12 Apostles in good sunlight, explore Loch Ard Gorge, and settle into Port Campbell for the night (68°F/20°C).

Port Campbell to Port Fairy
Start the morning back at 12 Apostles to catch it in different light, and if you're interested, you can take an optional helicopter flight over the coastline. Spend time at Loch Ard Gorge learning about the shipwreck history, then continue to London Bridge and The Bay of Islands. By lunchtime you'll be in Warrnambool grabbing food at Wynes Patisserie. The afternoon takes you to Tower Hill Wildlife Park for an interactive tour that covers Aboriginal history, geology, local flora and fauna, plus a bush tucker walk and boomerang throwing. Later you'll arrive in the quiet fishing village of Port Fairy with time to walk around before dinner (66°F/19°C).

Port Fairy to Naracoorte
You'll head into South Australia with a stop at Cape Nelson to take in panoramic coastal views from the lighthouse. From there, travel through pine plantations and the small riverside village of Nelson before lunch at Limestone Coast Pantry retro café. After crossing into South Australia, you'll reach Mount Gambier to see the Blue Lake, which sits inside an ancient volcanic crater. Next up is Umpherston Sinkhole, a collapsed limestone cave that's been turned into a sunken garden with terraced flower beds and hanging vines. Stop in Penola to learn about Mother Mary MacKillop and walk through preserved Petticoat Lane cottages, then drive through Coonawarra vineyards on your way to Naracoorte (64°F/18°C).

Naracoorte to Adelaide
After a cooked breakfast, head to the world heritage listed Naracoorte Caves for a guided tour of Victoria Fossil Cave with its stalactites, stalagmites, and bones of extinct animals. You'll have morning tea at Keith, then drive through South Australia's farming and grazing country. See the five grain silos in Coonalpyn, which is a major public art installation, and take a leisurely ferry crossing of the River Murray at Wellington. Lunch and wine tasting happen at Bremerton Winery in the Langhorne Creek wine region. Later, explore the heritage town of Strathalbyn with its antique shops, then visit Hahndorf, Australia's oldest German settlement. The day finishes at Mt Lofty Summit where you'll get views over Adelaide before being dropped at your accommodation around 6:00pm (63°F/17°C).
