Itinerary
- Day 1
Bogotá to El Cocuy
You'll depart your Bogotá hotel on an overnight bus, arriving in El Cocuy in the morning. After a traditional breakfast, there's a virtual briefing with the National Parks team to go over what's ahead. From there, you'll head out to one of three acclimatization sites: Cerro de Mahoma lookout, Laguna de las Lajas, or the Cacique de la Montaña ecological trail. Plan on 2 to 5 hours of hiking depending on which location you choose, moving through Colombian mountain landscapes to help your body adjust to the altitude.

El Cocuy
This is the main hiking day, so you'll want an early start. Before dawn you'll have a hearty breakfast, then head to the trailhead at 4:30 am for an 8 to 10 hour hike through the Valle de Los Frailejones páramo ecosystem. You'll climb to Sierra's big lagoon at 4,400 meters, continue to Púlpito del Diablo, and reach the snow-capped Pan de Azúcar summit where you get panoramic views across the region. Lunch happens on the trail to keep your energy up. After descending back to El Cocuy, you'll have dinner and spend the night recovering from the day.

El Cocuy to Bogotá
Start with a hearty farm breakfast, then travel to the hot springs in Guicán for a relaxing soak in the mineral-rich waters with Andean mountains all around. You'll have lunch in the village after that. Later in the afternoon, you'll begin your journey back to Bogotá by bus with your guide accompanying you. The drive takes most of the evening and night, with arrival in Bogotá around 11:00 pm, then a transfer to your hotel to finish your trip.
