  • Loch Ness, the Jacobite and Skye Guided Rail Tour reviewer 1
    · July 22nd, 2024
Ciaran was an excellent guide. However, guide doesn't cover everything he did for our trip. We were wanting someone to help take out the stress of driving and finding activities, Ciaran went above and brought the entire experience of visiting Scotland to a personal level. My wife and I never had a care about what we were going to do and were never rushed at sites. Every stop/side trip felt like living another chapter in the story of Scotland. There was time to experience the places we visited, but never so long that we felt we had seen it all. Ciaran even made the 'adventure' of a rail strike feel like an opportunity to see more things off the beaten path. We wanted to take him home with us, to meet the rest of our family. Whenever I think of Scotland, I will also remember Ciaran as the man who's love for his country is too big not to share.

    Asked on January 13th, 2025

I see i'd get a full detailed itinerary after committing but i wanted to have an idea of how much time is spent traveling on each thing (train, bus, boat, etc.) and how much time is spent at each location being visited?

      Jeffrey

      TravelerWritten January 2025

I'm not looking for spending hours at every loaiton, just trying to get a feel for the pace. And of course, spending time on a train is a whole different thing from spending time on a coach.

    • McKinlay KiddOperatorWritten January 2025

The train time from Glasgow to Fort William departs at 08:21 arriving at 12:07, which you are then picked up by a bus which is privately hired for the tour. Some stops such as the Commando Memorial and Loch Oich would be for approx. 30-40 minutes, whereas specific attraction visits such as Urquhart Castle, will be approx. an 1.5hrs to 2hrs. The guide is always flexible and if the group are particularling enjoying certain attractions, they can stay longer as long as it is not affecting the rest of the schedule.

    • J

      Jeffrey

      TravelerWritten January 2025

Thank you very much. That's just what I was looking for. I assumed that the train based tour would spend more time at fewer stops than a coach based tour.
