Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Arrival in Kathmandu

    You'll land at Tribhuvan International Airport where a representative meets you at arrivals. From there, it's a transfer to your hotel so you can get settled in and rest after your flight.

  2. Day 2

    Kathmandu City Tour

    After breakfast, you'll spend the day hitting Kathmandu's main cultural sites. Start at Boudhanath Stupa, then head to Pashupatinath Temple by the Bagmati River. Later, walk through Patan Durbar Square with its palace buildings and temples, then finish at Swayambhunath (the Monkey Temple) where you get views across the valley.

  3. Day 3

    Kathmandu to Pokhara

    An early departure on a tourist bus takes you toward Pokhara on a scenic drive through Nepal's countryside. You'll pass through rural villages, farmland, and river valleys with mountain scenery the whole way. Once you arrive in Pokhara, there's time to take in views of Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, Machhapuchhare, and the Annapurna range, plus explore some of the city's lakes.

  4. Day 4

    Pokhara to Jomsom to Kagbeni

    After an early breakfast, you'll catch a 20-minute scenic flight from Pokhara over the mountains with views of massive 8,000-meter peaks like Annapurna and Dhaulagiri, landing in Jomsom. From there, it's a 3-hour trek along the Kali Gandaki riverbed to Ekley-bhatti. After that, an easy one-hour walk gets you to Kagbeni, a windswept village on the old Trans-Himalayan Salt Trade route where two rivers meet.

  5. Day 5

    Kagbeni to Chele

    You'll start with a permit check, then trek alongside the Kaligandaki river heading upstream. The trail follows sandy, windy terrain with both uphill and downhill sections. You'll pass through Tangbe village with its whitewashed houses and orchards, cross the river at Chhusang through a natural tunnel created by fallen rock, then continue over small ridges to reach Chele village.

  6. Day 6

    Chele to Gelling

    The trek continues beyond Chele as you head into Buddhist territory and rise above the tree line. You'll make a steep climb up a canyon to Chele La pass at 3,630m/11,910 feet with views of Tilicho Peak. From there, it's down to Samar, a horse caravan stop, then you trek through ridge undulations, pass Shyangmochen village, and cross Shyangmochen La pass at 3,850m/12,630 feet before descending past prayer flags to Gelling village.

  7. Day 7

    Gelling to Tsarang

    Today's trek takes you through fields and past chortens to Nyi La pass at 4,020m/13,190 feet, the southern border of Lo. A gentle descent follows to Ghemi La chorten, then a steep drop to whitewashed Ghemi village. The trail continues down to cross Tangmar Khola, climbs past a large mani wall to Choya La pass at 3,870m/12,700 feet with great views of Nilgiri and Annapurna peaks. You'll finish by descending past prayer flags to Tsarang, the second largest town in Upper Mustang, where a 14th-century dzong and gompa overlook the river gorge.

  8. Day 8

    Tsarang to Lo Manthang

    After breakfast, you'll spend time exploring Tsarang village, walking through the local gompa and checking out the small chortens. Then it's a 4-5 hour trek to Lo Manthang through hills, cliffs, and rocky terrain with mountain views throughout. Once you arrive, you'll rest for the rest of the day.

  9. Day 9

    Lo Manthang Exploration

    You'll explore Lo Manthang and its cultural attractions today. Head to Namgyal Gompa, a monastery on a hilltop that also functions as a local court, then continue to Tingkhar, the last main village to the northwest. You can also check out Tall Champa Lakhang, the red Thugchen Gompa, Chyodi Gompa, and the Entrance Hall. Visit the four-storey Raja's palace and take in panoramic Himalayan views.

    Lo Manthang to Drakmar

    Starting your return from Lo Manthang, you'll trek to Drakmar via Gyakar. Along the way, you'll visit Ghar Gompa, which is over 1,200 years old and features Guru Rinpoche as its main figure. The gompa is known for its rock paintings and local legend claims wishes made here come true. You'll explore the local area, though expect dusty, windy conditions in the afternoon.

    Drakmar to Ghiling

    It's a long 5-6 hour trek to Ghiling for your overnight stay. After arrival and lunch, you'll have time to walk around the area. The afternoon brings dusty and windy weather, so it's better to take your walk in the evening instead.

  12. Day 12

    Ghiling to Ghiling

    You'll retrace the route back to Ghiling for another overnight stay after a 5-hour walk. The journey offers great scenery and Himalayan views the entire way. You'll stay overnight at a teahouse.

  13. Day 13

    Ghiling to Jomsom

    This is a long trekking day, so you'll start early. The route takes you back to Kagbeni, finishing up the Upper Mustang trails and reconnecting with the standard Annapurna circuit. After lunch in Kagbeni, you'll head on to Jomsom for your overnight stop. If an extra day fits your schedule, your guide can add a trip to Muktinath as well.

    Pokhara to Kathmandu

    After breakfast, you'll start the 200-kilometer drive back to Kathmandu. In the evening, you'll join a farewell dinner to celebrate finishing the trek. You'll stay overnight in Kathmandu.

    Departure from Kathmandu

      If you can normally walk 5-7 hour a day you can do this trek. Be informed that Mustang is protected area so need 2 or more than 2 people to do this trek as per government rules.

    • For any tour departing before January 3rd, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after January 3rd, 2026, a minimum payment of 20% is required to confirm your booking with Himalayan Sanctuary Adventure. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
