- Cecilia· June 12th, 2025I started planning a trip to Uzbekistan back in July 2024 for summer of 2025. I reached out to Odil at Steppe Journeys asking for information on tours/drivers since I wasn't sure if they would work with a solo traveler. He was always prompt and detailed in his communication. I worked with Odil on solidifying the trip earlier in the year. He provided good guidance on timeframes for travel as well as sights to see. The best part of the experience was the knowledgeable tour guides and drivers. The tour guides all seemed like academics. Their knowledge on their respective cities is vast. They were kind and provided excellent recommendations. My driver for most of the trip was a wonderful person. We communicated as best as we could with the little English he knew. He always made sure I was comfortable. I will never forget his kindness. My driver in Tashkent, Bek (Khostorbek) went above and beyond. He also spoke excellent English. Unfortunately, my luggage was delayed. He took me back to the airport at 2:00 in the morning to retrieve my baggage. He was very accommodating and service-focused. Anything I asked was no problem for him. He is also very knowledgable on Tashkent. The accommodations were excellent. I even stayed in a madrassa in Khiva. Uzbekistan is a beautiful country with an amazing culture. I hope more and more tourists visit this special place. I am hoping to go back one day. Thank you Steppe Journeys for a wonderful experience!Show moreSteppe Journeys commented on this reviewDear Cecilia Thank you so much for your kind and thoughtful review. - XGXenia· October 28th, 2024Automatic translation available in English. View in EnglishThe guides were good, but the organization and especially the communication were catastrophic. The plan we received in advance was not adhered to at all. We were only five people in total, which was very pleasant, but the organizer still failed to put us on a train, on a plane and in a hotel. We had to complain several times and the whole group was very disappointed. It started, for example, with the fact that the tour did not start at the Navruz Hotel as agreed but at Inspira S. We had to drive there at our own expense (!) to wait almost an hour for the guide because the tour was postponed from 9:30 am to 10 am without informing us. The option to take the train from Samarkand to Bukhara was never mentioned, so we lost a whole day just for the ride. We were supposed to stop for lunch, which didn't happen etc etc. This lack of organization and communication continued throughout the week. Every day there were problems, A was said, B was done, making a stress free vacation impossible. We can NOT recommend Steppe Journeys and would not book with this tour operator again. Too bad.Show moreTrip date: October 2024
- FRFlora· October 28th, 2024Uzbekistan was a mind blowing experience. Definitely worth the trip. The tour guides were knowledgeable and helpful. There were glitches in the organisation but any issues were quickly resolved. So overall I was satisfied. The hotels were of varying quality but satisfactory. The Inspira S in Tashkent was excellent and the hotel in Khiva was right in the old city and was in itself an ancient madrassah which was a unique experience. I had a great time !Show moreTrip date: October 2024

- ANAriana· October 11th, 2024I was incredibly impressed with how organized this tour was. I felt taken care of in every detail from beginning to end! I felt Bek was looking after me the whole time, the local guides were great and passed information between them seemlessly, hotels were great. Thank you!Show moreTrip date: September 2024
- GHGlen· September 28th, 2024We booked a small group tour in September but as it transpired we were the only 2 in the group! But we were looked after extremely well. Private excellent English-speaking guides and drivers in each city, excellent hotels.Show moreTrip date: September 2024
- YZyan· September 27th, 2024It was an amazing trip. Almost every aspect of the trip exceeded my expectations. At Steppe Journeys, everyone is very helpful, responsive and reliable, from initial pick up to final departure. Drivers, guides and office supports. I like the itinerary of the tour. In a week, it touched all major sights of the country, without feeling being rushed. I also enjoyed the free time to explore the cities on my own. The Guides are very knowledgeable and share their personal experiences being local. The drivers are all very skillful in managing the local road (sometimes tough) efficiently and safely. Another In addition, the small tour group is much much more enjoyable than those of big tour bus. I strongly recommended Uzbekistan with steppeShow moreSteppe Journeys commented on this reviewThank Yan We are very happy you have enjoyed your trip in Uzbekistan.
