Show moreTrip date: March 2019 - JJulieHFerguson· November 15th, 2018On the spur of the moment, I decided to do a private tour and India Arrival Tours stepped up. In 45 mins I was off with Rahis in a taxi. I explained that I wanted to focus on textiles after a quick visit to the Lotus Temple. His two choices were in contrast to each other and off the beaten tourist track. I spent an hour in a Kashmiri shop learning how they knot their handmade carpets as I had water and tea. The 900 families in Kashmir cannot sell them d/t the political turmoil and send them down to this shop for sale. All these carpets are made in the homes and take months to complete. Even though I didn't/couldn't buy one, the staff showed many to me. each was beautiful and coloured with natural dyes. If you go, make sure you spend time in the fabric department and see the silk scarves, pashminas made from the wool underneath goats' chins, and the fabrics. Then Rahis whisked me off to a government-sponsored, non-profit operation that supports the poor. They do tailoring, make anything you want and deliver suits, shirts, saris, dresses, etc to your hotel. The fabrics were less sumptuous than the other shop, but with a huge selection. It's well worth asking to visit this shop. As we drove around, Rahis gave me the historical perspective of Delhi and also told me about health care and education here. All in all, the tour was exactly what I had requested. First-class experience, not to be missed. Recommended.Show moreTrip date: November 2018
