The experience was fantastic and John's leadership and the sense of family & community he created was incredible. However I would've liked if we got to spend more time talking to Alex and Juma during our down time, as they spent so much time cooking and driving and couldn't interact with us as much as John could.

Generally well organised, plus tour guides good at managing back-of-house work and contingencies without stressing the group. Also, itineraries that intrepid offer appeal to us

Normally I would give a top score, however, we were sick the whole trip (not Intrepids fault). There was no rest time to recover and we had to get up very early many days to see the wildlife and go on a balloon ride, so we could not recover.

The trip exceeds our expectations. We were introduced to the different aspects of African cultures. Saw amazing landscapes and wildlife beyond expectations. The crew was professional and we felt comfortable at all times.

Our guide, Julius Leteele was exceptionally good with his local knowledge. He went out of his way to make sure we were secure and informed at every step of the way. Our chefs, Godfrey and Jeremiah provided delicious and nutritious food sourced locally every single day. We really tasted the local authentic cuisine in spite of being in the road. Our driver, David was supremely skilled and kept us safe even with the wild and uncertain roads. We realise how risky travel can be in the wild with uncertain terrain but we always felt safe with him. All in all, it was an enriching and memorable experience.

Wondering if you are running this tour the opposite direction? We are looking for a 1-way safari tour FROM Arusha TO Nairobi (or even better, Entebbe)

Is there any additional charge to return to Nairobi with the crew? Is that done in a single day drive?

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten May 2024

There is no charge for returning to Nairobi with the crew, it's a single day drive. Any flights out of Nairobi should not be booked to depart before 9 pm tonight. We highly recommend you book a post-trip accommodation and depart the following day.

We would like information regarding the quality of the lodge, the permanent tented lodging and the basic camping. Particularly relating to the basic camping, will the passengers be expected to set up their own tents, help with the cooking, etc?

      TravelerWritten November 2023

Do you also provide a single supplement for the tour?

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten November 2023

Accommodation within the Serengeti is in two-person canvas dome tents with sleeping bags and camping mattresses supplied. The campsite does have facilities but they are very basic and are not to the same standard you would find in western countries. There is rarely toilet paper provided and shower pressure is often reduced to a trickle of cold water.

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten November 2023

The cook will prepare meals for the group for most of included meals. While not required, any assistance you provide, such as chopping vegetables or washing dishes, will be appreciated. A typical camp breakfast might be toast with spreads, cereal, something hot such as eggs or pancakes, as well as tea and coffee. Lunch is almost always a sandwich with healthy salad and assorted fillings, sometimes with fruit to follow. Dinner might be a BBQ, rice dish or pasta dish and there is usually the chance to try some African food such as ugali and stew.

    Price / Availability
