Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Moshi to Simba Camp

    Meet your guide and mountain crew at the hotel for a briefing before heading by vehicle to Kilimanjaro National Park's northern entrance. After permits and registration, you'll start trekking through coniferous forest on the northern slope toward Simba Camp at the moorland zone edge. The moderate trek climbs uphill at a comfortable pace, and your crew will have camp ready with dinner waiting when you arrive.

  2. Day 2

    Simba Camp to Second Cave Camp

    After breakfast, continue climbing steadily through the moorland zone to Second Cave Camp. As you hike higher, you'll get good views of Kibo and the Eastern ice fields on the crater rim stretching out above you.

  3. Day 3

    Second Cave Camp to Kikilewa Camp

    You'll trek from Second Cave Camp toward Kikilewa Camp at 3,630 m after eating breakfast. This section leaves the main trail to cross moorland on a smaller path toward Mawenzi's jagged peaks, and it's more physically demanding than yesterday. Views of Kibo's Eastern ice fields continue throughout the day. Your crew sets up camp in the sheltered valley near Kikelewa caves and prepares dinner.

  4. Day 4

    Kikilewa Camp to Mawenzi Tarn Camp

    An early wake-up with breakfast, then a short but steep climb up grassy slopes to Mawenzi Tarn Camp where you'll see the Kenyan plains to the north. After lunch and a two-hour rest, you'll do an acclimatization hike toward Mawenzi Volcano to gain 200 meters, then head back to camp for dinner.

  5. Day 5

    Mawenzi Tarn Camp to High Camp

    Today involves a long but gradual hike across the lunar desert of the 'saddle' between Mawenzi and Kibo. After a couple hours trekking, you'll reach this stark landscape with Kilimanjaro's summit visible in the background and your trail to high camp laid out before you. Once you arrive, the rest of the day is for resting and preparing for the final push, with an early night.

  6. Day 6

    High Camp to Uhuru Peak to Horombo Hut

    The summit stage starts around midnight with a long and strenuous final ascent. You'll pass Hans Meyer Cave at 5,220 meters as the trail climbs slowly upward. At sunrise, you'll reach Gillman's Point at 5,681 meters on the crater rim as the sun begins warming the land. After 1 to 2 more hours, you'll reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters, Kilimanjaro's summit. The return to Kibo Hut includes a warm meal and several hours of rest before heading back down to Horombo Hut.

    Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate to Moshi

    The final descent from Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate covers nearly 20 km through tropical rainforest. After roughly 6 hours of trekking, you'll reach the Kilimanjaro National Park Gate and say goodbye to your mountain guides. A vehicle takes you back to your hotel in Moshi where you can shower and celebrate completing the summit.

    Moshi Departure

    A vehicle takes you to the airport or other destinations in Tanzania. If you have a safari planned, you can start that or fly to beaches in Zanzibar. The company can arrange various reasonably priced trips and safaris around the Moshi and Kilimanjaro region.

The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 60 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
