- yaquan· January 7th, 2025An Unforgettable Balkan Adventure! I recently had the pleasure of embarking on a Balkan tour “Balkan Discoveries” and I must say it was an absolutely incredible experience. From the moment I stepped into the bus, I was captivated by the beauty and charm of this region. Our tour guide, Simon, was exceptional. His knowledge of history and culture was truly impressive. He was incredibly passionate about sharing his insights and made the entire experience so much more enriching. He went above and beyond to ensure we had the best possible experience at each stop. Our driver, Zoki, was also fantastic. He was incredibly skillful and ensured our safe and comfortable transportation throughout the entire journey. The hotels we stayed in were clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. The selection of attractions was perfect. We visited iconic landmarks, explored hidden gems, and immersed ourselves in the local culture. Overall, The entire tour was incredibly well-organized and ran smoothly. The itinerary was perfectly paced, allowing us ample time to explore each destination while also avoiding any unnecessary rushing. I highly recommend this Balkan tour to anyone seeking an unforgettable travel experience. - MEManuella· December 28th, 2024Great tour, amazing main guide (Simon is just unbelievable, fantastic and safe driver (Zoki is a treasure). I liked the "modest" hotels more than the chains for the personal approach, I did not enjoy the smell of smoke in some of the hotels (!). The landscapes are enchanting if you ignore the remains of communist buildings, the stories are poignant, the cultures are unique, beautiful, hospitable and rich (which negates the need to claim others' successes). The group was just great people I hope I can call friends. The whole thing was an eye-opener worth every second of the trip.Show moreTravel Talk commented on this reviewHi Manuella, thank you for sharing your thoughts! - KBKaty· October 16th, 2024A wonderful tour visiting numerous places in The Balkans, full of history and culture. I enjoyed learning about each place as we visited and taking the walking tours of each city given by local guides. It is certainly a whistle-stop tour of many of the places visited due to the vast distances travelled, so bear that in mind, however we always had a few hours in each place to explore before getting onto the bus again. Our tour leader Simon was the most fantastic guide who could not do enough for us all (despite it being a challenging group). He went above and beyond at all times, always ready to answer questions or provide help and advice, and providing great suggestions of places to visit or eat/drink everywhere we visited. A fantastic trip to get a taste of each of the countries within the Balkans and to learn more about their history. I will certainly be returning to explore this area further!Show moreTravel Talk commented on this reviewHi Katy, thank you for sharing your wonderful experience on the Balkans tour! - LSLeva van· October 15th, 2024The sites and locations were ok but were let down by poorly chosen bus, considering the length of time driving around in the bus. There were no usb power point, trays to put food, snacks on, no toilets and lots of discomfort because one side of the bus, space was alot smaller (front section opposite the driver's side). Many people in the groups were selfish, inconsiderate, self entitled, fakey and ignorant. We all know which group it is that displayed these behaviours. Instructions from the tour guide were inconsistent and needs better structure and planning. For example, instructions for each day (breakfast time, meeting point, which country, passport, toilets breaks, etc) needs to be either shared on paper form (or people can take a pic of it on their phone) or instructions repeated on the shared WhatsApp group so people with poor attention and memory (lots of senior people) on the trip can refer to the schedule. This helps with timing and people knowing where to go and limit latesness to the bus etc. Lots of small but vital information we're either poorly communicated (when half the bus was asleep) or were missing entirely. Changing of bus seats with every new hotel was poorly handled because of inconsiderate people sitting anywhere they want and wasnt handled or policed well. The tour guide saying "we are adults here" does not help as these so called adults act like preschooler. The bus had face masks available but the group of people that cough the most did not bother to cover their mouths to limit infection. Again, it is the same group of people who is inconsiderate of others but the tour guide should of stepped in. Another rude admission is that there were no dinner included at all, zero. Everyone has to plan for their own dinner, although the suggestion given by the tour guide help a lot. The only positive items on the trips were that most of the hotels chosen were very good with breakfast that were much better than Western European countries which I attended with another tour company. Overall, organisation could be better, bus chosen needs serious consideration. The behaviour of the people on the tour needs better policing so everyone can enjoy the experience without putting up with selfishness and ignorant people.Show moreTravel Talk commented on this reviewHi Leva, Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your recent tour experience. We appreciate your feedback regarding the bus comfort and the need for clearer communication of daily instructions. We strive to ensure our guests have the best... Show moreTrip date: October 2024

Asked on March 5th, 2025I am having trouble locating places that exchange all of the currencies except the Euros. I've tried the banks and Foreign Exchange Counters at the airport and of the countries we'll be visiting, they only have Euros. I'm not sure what to do, especially if I want to purchase souvenirs or local foods/ snacks. What countries do I NEED those currencies from that I can't use Euros or my card in? If any, where can I affordably withdraw/ exchange the money so I can have it on hand?
- Travel TalkOperator•Written March 2025
Your itinerary covers multiple countries with different currencies, but Euros and credit/debit cards are widely accepted in most places. However, there are a few exceptions where having local currency on hand is recommended. Where You May Need Local Currency: Serbia (Belgrade) – Serbian Dinar (RSD). Some small vendors, and markets may not accept Euros or cards. Bosnia & Herzegovina (Sarajevo, Mostar, Trebinje) – Bosnian Convertible Mark (BAM). While Euros are sometimes accepted, local businesses often require BAM, especially for small purchases. North Macedonia (Ohrid, Skopje) – Macedonian Denar (MKD). Many places do not accept Euros, so having some denars is useful. Recommendation: Withdraw Serbian Dinars (RSD), Bosnian Convertible Marks (BAM), and Macedonian Denars (MKD) from ATMs in their respective countries as needed.

Traveler•Written March 2025What about for Croatia?

Croatia uses the Euro (€) as its official currency, so you won't need to exchange money or carry a separate local currency.
