Itinerary
- Day 1
Iquitos to Pacaya Samiria National Reserve
You'll get picked up from your Iquitos place in the morning and drive about 1 hour 45 minutes to Nauta. From there, a private boat takes you upriver for 3 hours through the landscape where you'll likely spot dolphins, herons, and turtles along the way. After checking in at Santo Domingo checkpoint, it's another 30 minutes by boat to Buenos Aires community. The afternoon is yours to explore the primary jungle on foot, and then you'll head out on a nocturnal hike to search for spiders, snakes, lizards, and frogs. That night you'll sleep in a typical village house with mosquito nets.

- Day 2
Pucate River Exploration
You'll start before sunrise watching for monkeys and sloths, then explore by canoe along the riverbanks. About 3 hours of navigating deeper into the primary jungle on the Pucate River follows. You can try artisanal piranha fishing with equipment and instruction, or catch Oscar fish or common trahira instead. Later you'll swim with pink and gray dolphins in the Pucate River, then walk to see the Lupuna, one of the Amazon's largest trees. Trekking to Iricahua Lake takes 2 to 3 hours, and there you can spot woolly monkeys, howler monkeys, titi monkeys, Arapaima giant fish, turtles, and caimans. A nocturnal expedition searching for white and black caimans wraps up the day, and you'll sleep in camping tents in the jungle.

Deep Jungle Exploration
You'll wake up very early to search for primates by canoe. A morning botanical walk teaches you about medicinal plants and you'll drink from a vine called Soga de agua (Water rope). After packing up camp, you navigate about 2 hours deeper into Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Exploring the jungle means looking for primates and other wildlife in their natural habitat, then you'll take a creek exploration by canoe. A walk to spot armadillos, giant anteaters, pacas, and agoutis comes next. The day ends with a nocturnal expedition searching for nocturnal animals, caimans, frogs, and snakes, and you'll sleep in camping tents again.

Return to Iquitos
You'll begin with an early morning canoe excursion to catch wildlife when it's most active. Bird watching happens in the jungle and by the riverbank, which is the best time to see wild birds. A jungle walk searching for primates and exploring surrounding lakes (cochas) follows. You'll stop at Buenos Aires community on the way back to stretch and optionally pick up hand-made handicrafts. Then it's back by boat to Nauta, and a private drive returns you to Iquitos. You'll arrive at the office or your accommodation in Iquitos, or head straight to the airport if your flight is scheduled.
