Itinerary

  1. Day 1

Iquitos to Pacaya Samiria National Reserve

You'll get picked up from your Iquitos place in the morning and drive about 1 hour 45 minutes to Nauta. From there, a private boat takes you upriver for 3 hours through the landscape where you'll likely spot dolphins, herons, and turtles along the way. After checking in at Santo Domingo checkpoint, it's another 30 minutes by boat to Buenos Aires community. The afternoon is yours to explore the primary jungle on foot, and then you'll head out on a nocturnal hike to search for spiders, snakes, lizards, and frogs. That night you'll sleep in a typical village house with mosquito nets.

    Start point

  2. Day 2

    Pucate River Exploration

You'll start before sunrise watching for monkeys and sloths, then explore by canoe along the riverbanks. About 3 hours of navigating deeper into the primary jungle on the Pucate River follows. You can try artisanal piranha fishing with equipment and instruction, or catch Oscar fish or common trahira instead. Later you'll swim with pink and gray dolphins in the Pucate River, then walk to see the Lupuna, one of the Amazon's largest trees. Trekking to Iricahua Lake takes 2 to 3 hours, and there you can spot woolly monkeys, howler monkeys, titi monkeys, Arapaima giant fish, turtles, and caimans. A nocturnal expedition searching for white and black caimans wraps up the day, and you'll sleep in camping tents in the jungle.

Very good experience, it was my first time in the jungle and it fulfilled the expectations 100%. We were able to meet different animals, swim in the river, see different species of plants, share with local communities. The guides were prepared and knowledgeable about the place, I took away a pleasant experience of the trip.
