    Arrival in Lhasa

You'll arrive in Lhasa by flight or train through the Himalayan Mountains or high plateau. Your local Tibetan guide and driver will meet you at the airport or railway station and present you with a traditional white scarf welcome. After transferring to your hotel, you have the rest of the day to explore the city at your own pace. It's important to take things easy today so your body can adjust to the high altitude.

    Start point
Lhasa Gonggar Airport (LXA) ལྷ་ས་གོང་དཀར་རྫོང་, 拉萨贡嘎机场, Shannan Diqu, Tibet, China (Arrival Hall, 09:30 - 16:00)

    Optional Activities

    • Wander around Lhasa city on your own

After lunch, head to the Tibet Museum to see displays of traditional life scenes, clothing, architecture, and festival customs. Later in the afternoon, you'll check out Norbulingka, a Tibetan-style royal garden that was the summer resort of the Dalai Lama.

The structure was originally built in the 7th century and rebuilt in the 17th century, and now functions as a museum and UNESCO World Heritage site. In the afternoon, walk through Jokhang Temple, one of Tibet's most sacred temples where you'll see local pilgrims. From there, take a walk around Barkhor Street, the ancient circular market that surrounds Jokhang Temple and represents a key symbol of Lhasa.

On the way, you'll pass through Ngachu Valley in the morning light and go over Kamba La Pass at 5,030 meters (16,503 feet) elevation. When you arrive at Yamdrok, you'll see the largest freshwater lake in the district surrounded by the Himalayan Mountains. The lake has different shades of blue and is shaped like an eardrop when viewed from above. You'll also see local animals grazing along the lakeshores and Tibetan villages in the valleys. In Lhasa city, there's not too much driving because the scenic spots are all in the city. On Day 4, the driving time is around 5 hours. This tour on 6 May is not confirmed. We have a confirmed departure on 12 May, would you consider joining?
