What people love about touring Tunisia solo
- Tunisia Discovery, Small Group Tour
I had never taken a tour this long and was a little apprehensive, but I had a great time. There were just three guests, the tour guide and the driver (who was actually in charge.) Fortunately, we all got on well, which I think was the most important thing and, of course, partly a matter of luck. However, the tour guide, Sami, was just excellent. He was knowledgeable; his English was good; and after a couple of days it turned out that he also had a good sense of humor. Most of all, he was happy to discuss current affairs and the recent history of Tunisia and was unafraid to share his opinions on politics, religion and whatever else we wanted to talk about. And the driver, Ali, was stupendous. Tunisian drivers are certainly more toward the aggressive end of the spectrum, but Ali was unflappable. He knew to the inch where the edges of his vehicle were and I felt completely safe in his charge.
- Highlights of Tunisia, Small Group Tour
This itinerary was absolutely fantastic! We came in a day early and started the tour the next day from Tunis. We also stayed a couple of days after in order to visit the Tunis medina which I highly recommend. It is a great way to see the historic and ancient sites, as well as the many varieties of geography in Tunisia. We also did the oasis tour which was optional and it was really worth it. Mondher was very knowledgeable, passionate about Tunisia and his work, and efficient. He met us every morning at the prescribed time and told us what was in store for the day. He gave us information along the road about Tunisia and at the particular sites. There was just the right amount of free time allotted. At the end of the day, he told us what we would be doing the next day and at what time to meet. This turned out to be a private tour which I was not expecting. Maybe there weren't enough English speakers for this particular tour at this time, but anyway it was nice. We had a large Toyota Land Cruiser which was very comfortable for the guide, the two of us, and the driver, along with our luggage and purchases along the way. I really appreciated our safe driver Jamal and our professional guide who became a friend. If you decide to take this tour ask for Mondher, you won't be sorry. The only slight criticism that I have is around communication with the actual tour company. At less than one week before the tour, I had not heard from them. I wrote to them with my questions about pick up, transfers, etc., and they responded right away with the information. The same thing happened at the end of the tour. I had to contact them to find out about pick up time. It would be more professional and less stressful for the traveler if the tour company was more proactive about offering this information. This was a small thing and in the end, everything came together.
- Tunisia Tour, Small Group Tour
In my opinion, Tunisie Voyages is a very reliable company providing a good standard of service. I would recommend it to others. The tour was well organised and run professionally. It was a very informative and enjoyable tour.. My personal thanks to the driver Ali and the guide Elyas. As a comment, I would like to note, that a hotel in Tozeur was not particularly comfortable. Also, a stay in Douz was pointless, as there is nothing to do there, if you do not fancy riding a camel.
What our customers ask about Tunisia Tours for Solo Travelers
What is the typical group size for solo travelers on Tunisia guided tours?
Most tour operators in Tunisia keep groups between 8-12 people which creates an intimate atmosphere for travelers. Hotels like the Golden Tulip Taj Sultan in Hammamet and El Mouradi Palace in Sousse often host these small group tours. A TourRadar traveler shared: "Mohammad was such an engaging guide who made everyone in our small group feel welcomed and included it was like having a wonderful friend show us his home."
What are the best areas in Tunisia for solo travelers to explore?
The coastal town of Hammamet makes a practical starting point with its blend of beaches and cultural sites. Solo travelers often spend time in Kairouan to see its UNESCO medina and the Sidi Sahbi Barber Mosque. The desert towns of Douz and Tozeur work well for group tours. These areas offer unique experiences from visiting cave dwellings in Matmata to crossing the Chott El Jerid salt flats. One TourRadar traveler noted: "The variety of locations was perfect - from the Mediterranean coast to the Sahara Desert each stop offered something unique and our guide made sure everyone felt comfortable and included."
What is the best time of year for solo travelers to visit Tunisia?
Spring months from March to May and fall from September to November offer the most pleasant weather for exploring sites like Kairouan and El Jem. The Seabel Alhambra Beach Golf & Spa in Sousse sees many solo guests during these quieter seasons. TourRadar data shows October and April are when most solo travelers book their trips.
What type of accommodation can solo travelers expect on Tunisia tours?
Tours typically use 3-4 star hotels such as the Palm Beach Palace in Tozeur and Seabel Alhambra in Sousse. Rooms come as private or shared options. Some itineraries include nights in traditional cave hotels in Matmata. A TourRadar traveler mentioned: "The hotels were all well-chosen comfortable and in great locations for exploring."
Do I need to pay a single supplement on Tunisia tours as a solo traveler?
Single supplements usually cost between $200-400 USD for week-long tours if you want a private room. Companies like Tunisie Voyages offer room-sharing with another solo traveler of the same gender to avoid this fee. Hotels including Palm Beach Palace in Tozeur and Dar ALOUINI in Kairouan have flexible room arrangements for solo guests.
How much free time is typically available on Tunisia group tours?
Tours generally allow 2-3 hours of independent time each day. The Tunisia Tour gives free afternoons in Tozeur and evenings in Sousse. Staying at central hotels like Dar El Jeld in Tunis lets guests explore on their own. According to one TourRadar review: "The timing was good with efficient transits and covered all important sites while still allowing personal time."
