What people love about touring Botswana solo
- Okavango Experience
My wife and I had an incredible experience on this trip. The staff were the perfect mix of Professional and personable. Friendly, kind, and enjoyable to spend time with. Also very knowledgeable and helpful. Especially when we had a hiccup with our travel documents. They made every effort to help us sort it out and get our trip back on track. The tour was fantastic. Going into it I was hoping to see lots of wildlife, but was well aware that nature doesn't always co-operate and told myself that I'd be happy as long as I saw an elephant. My mind was blown by how much wild life we did get to see, both variety and quantity. The seclusion of camping in the middle of the Delta, completely surrounded by wild Africa, and spending time with the local polers was a unique experience we'll never forget. Even the long days traveling in the bus were enjoyable as we got to know our travel companions, it was a diverse group from all over the globe, and we quickly made a bus load of new friends. We took advantage of the optional tours offered. A fly over tour of the delta shows you how vast and populated it is, in a way that is difficult to comprehend from the ground. And the game drive through Chobe national park, before the river tour that night. Both of these extras were well worth the money. I would encourage peoples budget to include these add-ons. It is a basics tour, so plush accommodations are not to be expected. The heavy canvas tents, and sleeping matts provided were an adequate place to sleep, but my wife found the sleeping mats are to thin. I recommend to anybody not used to camping, bring an extra sleeping mat.
What our customers ask about Botswana Tours for Solo Travelers
What kinds of social activities are included in Botswana tours?
The daily schedule naturally brings travelers together through shared experiences. You'll join others for game drives in Moremi Reserve evening drinks in Chobe National Park and water safaris in the Okavango Delta. Properties like Savute Safari Lodge organize communal meals and nightly campfires. As one TourRadar reviewer noted: "The group activities were fantastic - we shared incredible moments watching lions in Savute and trading stories around the campfire each night."
Which areas in Botswana are most popular for solo safari tours?
Three regions stand out for solo travelers: the Okavango Delta Chobe National Park and Moremi Game Reserve. These areas offer well-developed facilities and various lodging options. Properties like Xugana Island Lodge in the Delta and Chobe Game Lodge make it easy to meet fellow travelers while seeing wildlife. A TourRadar traveler shared: "The combination of Okavango Delta and Chobe was perfect - great mix of activities and plenty of chances to connect with other safari enthusiasts."
What's the best time of year for solo travelers to visit Botswana?
The dry winter season from May to October brings the best wildlife viewing as animals gather around water sources like the Chobe River and Okavango Delta. This peak period sees the most group tours operating. The shoulder months of April and November offer better rates while still providing good game viewing in places like Moremi Reserve and the Khwai Concession.
How safe is Botswana for solo travelers on guided tours?
Botswana ranks among Africa's safest safari destinations particularly for those on guided tours. Professional guides accompany all activities from game drives in Chobe to water excursions in the Delta. Properties like Rra Dinare Lodge and Elephant Sands maintain round-the-clock security with trained staff. As one TourRadar traveler noted: "Our guide was wonderful and provided great knowledge about safety while still allowing us to fully experience the adventure."
What is the typical single supplement cost for Botswana tours?
Extra charges for single travelers typically run between USD 200-600 based on trip duration and accommodation level. At upscale properties like Machaba Camp in the Delta single supplements average USD 300 per night. Many tour operators offer room-sharing programs matching solo travelers of the same gender to avoid these fees.
