In Svalbard, we operate under some of the strictest environmental and wildlife protection regulations in the world. These rules are in place to ensure the safety and well-being of both visitors and the unique Arctic wildlife, such as seals, polar bears, and seabirds. Specifically, we are required by law to maintain a minimum distance from wildlife to avoid causing stress or disturbance. In some cases, this means observing animals from afar—sometimes farther than guests might expect. While we understand this can be disappointing, especially after such a long journey, these guidelines are critical to preserving Svalbard's fragile ecosystems for future generations. We do our best to provide meaningful experiences within these boundaries, and we regret that the landing site and viewing distances didn’t live up to your expectations. Your feedback is important to us, and we’ll continue working to balance guest experience with responsible environmental stewardship.
